Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTIndeed it does compensate for the rubbish C1 paper, granted somepeople thought the c1 paper was easy(Original post by Bulbasaur)
Eh, how was it spoonfed? That was the only question I had any trouble with, I found the second bit easier than the first
And they always give you the answer- you just have to work towards it for the first bit or that's pretty unfair were you to make a mistake in the first, less important part. 65 isn't really 'extremely high'- there a lot of very weak candidates (20% fail each year regardless of the paper) and they tend to be weaker in June. I doubt it'll be much higher than that. Besides, from the sounds of it you didn't drop anything so why does it even matter? lol
Granted it was pretty easy, but not the easiest we've ever seen. It also compensates for C1 which was probably the hardest Edexcel had ever set.
But I dont agree with the fact that you think this wasnt the easiest paper. Certainly for me it was. And my school gave me a past paper pack from jan 2006 till jan2012.. (not undermining anyone in anyway)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTDon't worry, that won't affect your grade. What do you plan on studying at uni?(Original post by Theafricanlegend)
Yeah i know, the only thing that tripped me up a bit was me forgetting to cancel a pi, on Q7 where the question said prove that the surface area= (something), which i was quite annoyed about as i did it when i was out of the exam hall -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTHopefully I will still get good UMS though! I wanted to chem eng now i changed to medicine(Original post by mzayn)

and you?

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTSo did mine lol. And the mock paper we did I thought was easier (June 2011). Either way, a lot of people I know messed up a fair bit of that so I'm not entirely convinced it's gonna be uber high boundaries. I think I got like 72 anyways, so I'm not too worried.(Original post by Theafricanlegend)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTAha you'll be fine. Oh wow, I'm thinking of doing chemical engineering...that or bioengineering. One thing I advise you to do is try to get to get some work experience under your belt if you haven't already.(Original post by Theafricanlegend)
Hopefully I will still get good UMS though! I wanted to chem eng now i changed to medicine
and you?

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTahh yeah i just missed out a stupid pi in my proof. So hopefully 1 0r 2 marks! (not all 3!)(Original post by Bulbasaur)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTYep I have alot of variation of work experience! I went to libya and volunteered for a week in an emergeny hospital and attended a surgery, so yeah that'll hopefully make me stand out a little! Yeah i advise you to find good physics books to read, i got a book ccalled ''how things work physics of everyday life'' and do a bit more further reading(Original post by mzayn)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTAh, unlucky. That could be 2 marks since they give a mark for getting to the right exact answer (and the method mark). Still, can't knock 73, pretty amazing score.(Original post by Theafricanlegend)
ahh yeah i just missed out a stupid pi in my proof. So hopefully 1 0r 2 marks! (not all 3!)
And that's exactly my point. Not everyone, not even the most able can get 100 UMS under most circumstances on a maths paper. It's very easy to make costly mistakes and silly errors, or just not knowing how to do something but then figuring it out after.... most exams aren't indicative of your best (or sometimes even your average) performance. -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTAwesome! You're well on your way to becoming a doctor(Original post by Theafricanlegend)

Cool thanks, I'll check it out. -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTI agree! But because it said prove i think there is a chance I could only lose 1 mark (in the end part i just put the thing they wanted me to pprove), not saying that 73 is a bad score or anything!(Original post by Bulbasaur)

Yes indeed. -

Awesome! You're well on your way to becoming a doctor

and good luck to you too! -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTSpoon-fed is possibly a bit strong but I felt that showing you what you were supposed to be working to made the question significantly easier to figure out which identity to use. The trig question was comfortably the hardest on the paper but it could have been made a bit harder without part a) which I feel would have helped to differentiate ((Original post by Bulbasaur)

) at the higher levels.
I would argue that the paper was more consistently easy than any other paper I've tried and I've done every past Edexcel paper and Solomon Paper. I'm surprised you considered the Summer 2011 paper easier - none of the questions on it are standout jokes such as the Binomial we had this year and Q5 in particular was a brilliant question which stumped over 90% of the people who took the paper and really distinguished between those who were well-prepared and those who truly understood what they were doing. I feel every paper should have a similar sort of question, as it allows those with genuine mathematical flair to show their stuff whilst also reducing the grade boundaries to an extent that making a silly error doesn't cost excessive UMS. With regards to UMS grade boundaries, agreed, 65 isn't extremely high but I would not be surprised in the slightest if the actual boundary was higher.
I'm extremely hopeful for full marks in the paper but I'm not going to cite it as my score yet and certainly not going to put down those who haven't because doing so would make me look like a complete and utter idiot in the event I don't have perfect UMS come results day. Everyone is prone to stupid mistakes that don't stem from any lack of understanding and the problem with this paper is that its general ease is likely to exaggerate that. -

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTIf you're attempting to change my opinion then I suggest you go look at the Binomial Expansion questions from previous past papers. Objectively it was one of the easiest Binomial questions ever put in an exam paper and whilst I apologise if you felt my previous post belittled you the opinion expressed in it isn't liable to change.(Original post by When you see it...)
I dropped 2 marks on that! -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTThey are all the same tbh. I don't think that particular question will lower the grade boundaries, but we will probably find out on the 15th.(Original post by DJMayes)
