Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTsame lol even worked out OP then crossed it out.(Original post by anuradha_d)
Haiyya, my calculations for the last bit are rift except I got lambda equals -7, so my final answer was wrong.. Also, I got y=
+-Root(9/4)but I substituted y=9/4 instead of 3/2by mistake :'( how many lost is that in total? -
Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTJust wanted to say thank you for all your help over the last two years. It's great that you do each paper every year and you put a lot of people's concerns at rest.(Original post by Arsey)
model solutions are now in the first post
One final question though...with the cartesian equation, I got to the point that you did where you said it was enough. But then I went and put everything in terms of y, to get 4x^2/12-3y=y
If they see my X^2=12(1-y/4)(y/4) in my working do you think i'll get full marks? -
Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTDoubt it, arsey am I right in thinking students are getting better so grade boundaries are going up?(Original post by Abdullah CEO)
the grade boundaries will be similar to June last year -
Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
a lot of people at my school found it quite difficult. I think I have 65/75 if im being harsh marking, from resitting core 3 last week i think ive got 74/75, will this be enough for an a*? someone please put me out of my misery, I think it can go either way
-
Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTDefinitely enough I would think(Original post by jennyelgar)

Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
made some stupid mistakes, for the -4/2root3 i just used the divide sign when i normally use the one number over another sign so got k to be -2 and the answer to be -2root3 and carried this on for the next question, will i lose one mark for the next question and is it just error carried forward for the second?
for the separating a variables question i also took 3/y over and left 1/cos^2x on the dx side, to get 3lny and tanx when i integrated and then put the y and x numbers they gave into my equation how many marks will i lose for this?Last edited by happ; 22-06-2012 at 08:06. -
Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTyeah but june 2011 was such an easy exam and 68/75 was an A*, i know a lot of people who found it hard(Original post by chaosdestro0)

Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
ok so being harsh .. I got between 50 and 54 .. would that be a C or a B ? I only need a C .. so pleaaaaaase be atleast a C ? anyones thoughts ?
i ****ed this paper up big time. lost 12 marks cos I missed out the x on 18xy .. in q5
method marks or not?

Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTUmm I thought it was easy but quite easy to make mistakes.(Original post by Abdullah CEO)

I don't know, I hope it's low grade boundaries but all I need to get is 67 UMS average. -
Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
I didn't know how to simplify the question to aln2 +b, so I guess that's one mark lost there. And I completely left out the cartesian equation one after trying for about 20 minutes. Hopefully if I didn't make any other silly mistakes I should still get 71, and if I did decent in C3 maybe I can scrape an A*.. :/

Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
I have everything right, apart from one concern.
In the cartesian question, I had an answer of 4x2 + 3y2 -12y = 0
Here's how I got it:
Using the identity Cos(2t) = 2Cos2(t) -1
y would equal 2Cos(2t) + 2
Rearranging gives (y-2)/2 = Cos(2t)
and rearranging the x bit would give Sin(2t) = (x)/sqrt(3)
Then I plugged in those two results into the identity Sin2(2t) + Cos2(2t) = 1
So I got (x2)/3 + (y2-4y+4)/4 = 1
I multiplied the whole equation by 12
Removing 12 from both sides, which eventually gave me 4x2 + 3y2 -12y = 0 -
Re: C4 June 2012 - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
I think I got everything right except in the last question I got (2,1,1) instead of (-2,1,1) and thn used that for the rest of the question. Do they allow 'errors carried forward'? I need 84 ums to get an A* for my firm choice, so can't afford to lose all the marks on the last question... :/
hopefully it will be, i need it for uni!
