Gender isn't who you attracted to, you're talking about sexual orientation.

And no, he doesn't have to like boys or girls. Some people aren't attracted to either, it's called asexuality. But your friend is probably just shy about sex.

Maybe it's out of respect to those who are kissing?

Where is he from? Where are his parents from? Maybe it's to do with how he was brought up.

You don't mean gender. Gender means whether a person identifies as male or female (regardless of whether that matches up with their body). It's not who they find attractive. E.g. a man is still of the male gender whether he is gay or straight.

My dad hates soppy scenes in films. But he's married, with 4 kids like i said, your friend may be sexually confused and finds romantic scenes awkward.

Nilosh , when a person has 2 genders or no gender it is extremely painful and therefore will have to be smiling. So does your friend smile a lot to ease out his physical pain.
"Smiling Releases Endorphins, Natural Pain Killers and Serotonin
Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural pain killers, and serotonin. Together these three make us feel good. Smiling is a natural drug."

Yes. But you acknowledge he is a man, so he does have a gender. You mean sexuality, and it's perfectly possible he is asexual. It's also perfectly possible he's not. What's the big deal?
