    Eating in exams
I've never thought about it until today, when my eyes were watering from trying to stop a coughing fit mid exam (so the other people weren't distracted, we all hate the person who sniffs and coughs through an exam...), is it ok to bring cough sweets/mints into an exam?

    Depends on the invigilators.

If you take them in without the wrapper, then I cannot see why not.

We got told way back in year 10 that we can eat in exams. Everyone made a huge joke about bringing a whole picnic in (the entirety of my school is obsessed with food! We raised some vast sum of money just from cake sales once) but in all seriousness I think you're allowed to take it in as long as it doesn't have the wrapper.

Do the invigilators seriously bring cough sweets to the exam hall

Sweets are fine, but make sure they are in wrappers (ideally transparent) that don't make a lot of noise. There is nothing more off-putting than having someone sat behind you scrunching away when you are trying to construct a ingenious theory for your exam answer...

    I assumed you can...

I once had mints and cough sweets (in their wrapping) easily accessible in my pocket, and subtly got one out whenever I needed one (really bad cold )
I'm sure they noticed (they notice everything, right!), but noone commented

omgoshh....of course! I'm known for eating a lot in exams! :P Today I had chemistry, and I was nibbling on some Smarties to make me smart LOL...but last year, I used to pre-break up some kitkat into small pieces so I wouldn't make too much sound!

I always take mints or weathers or something along with a bottle of water into my exam, the invigilators dont seem to mind, I asked the first few times and they were like of course

Yep, you can't really forbid food in exams, I'm not sure about the UK as regards exam length but I had plenty of 3 hour exams in uni and some that were 3 and a half hours long for Leaving Cert. You could have people dropping if they don't eat in that space of time, hypoglycaemic and some other conditions. Just be considerate of others around you. I always had nutri-grains, lying on top of the wrapper so no noise. Try to get mints/cough sweets without individual wrappera and have the packet somewhat opened. Polos have no wrappers..not sure about cough sweets other than the ones you can get in a tin, they'd be good.

I have never seen anyone do it. Why would you want to eat in an exam anyway? Unless its over 6 hours long then there is no reason to not just eat before it. Eating doesnt stop you coughing does it?

Ahh that would make much more sense

I find it really irritating when people purposely make loads of noise to bug you,

During my stats mock (it's only a mock I know) there was this boy sitting next to me who was shuffling his feet around and kicking his own table and purposely making loads of noise.
Got so frustrated, I swear if he hadn't had stopped I would've thrown a chair at him

I always take food into an exam, I know it is only 3 hours but I literally can't go that long without eating, whenever I don't my stomach rumbles, so I think a little bit of wrapper noise is much less distracting than that for everyone around me, it's for the greater good!

    Re: Eating in exams
Once I felt really sick in an exam and I knew I had a wrapped mint in my pocket, I thought it would help if I sucked it. So I reached into my pocket and tried to unwrap it, but of course the exam hall was so quiet that it sounded REALLY loud, everyone turned around and stared at me, wrappers are definitely something to avoid!

It should be fine, I know in Scotland it's alright, we just have to declare it to the invigilators (basically tell them we'll be eating/taking things) and have them lying out on our desks so they can see them so it should be fine
