Re: AQA Physics A - PHYA4 (11/06/12) - Exam threadI go to a private skl too and had the exact same reaction with some A* students saying it was very hard, I concur with the boundaries being between 45 and 48 max for an A, though it should be below 48 since it was harder than all the past papers(Original post by Notsocleverstudent)
tbh, that coming from a private school student almost nearly confirms my hypothesis -

I genuinely think it'll be 45 for an A. Not terribly hard paper but the way people would've responded during the exam in comparison to after, it makes complete sense. -

Also because that proof question about the sand will probably have defeated about 80% of candidates.. the neon question will have thrown a lot of people off as well, and question 2 on electric fields was very poorly worded and very hard.
I know a lot of people (myself included) who barely had time to do the last question because they spent so long trying to figure out the neon and sand question. I managed to do it in about 4 minutes, but I know A* candidates who didn't even get to do the last 6 marker question.
In other terms.. AQA are Tw**s! -
Re: AQA Physics A - PHYA4 (11/06/12) - Exam threadThe problem was it was one of the first A2 exams so you wanted to get everything right. Because most of us spent so much time on Q1 and the multiple choice, we had barely enough time to check over our exam. I definitely think about 5 marks on average are saved for checking over.(Original post by robthefool)

Re: AQA Physics A - PHYA4 (11/06/12) - Exam threadYeah that's true, that's why when I realised the sand and neon gas questions were going to be hard I left them until the end. I also did section B before section A so that helped as well.(Original post by robthefool)

Out of curiosity, what do you think would be an answer for the last question that would get 6/6? -
Re: AQA Physics A - PHYA4 (11/06/12) - Exam threadYeah that was the only question i just about managed. So you could find the potential. Then you knew the potential gradient remained the same throughout the tube. then you used 'V/d= V1/d1' to get the value of the distance. That was like the only question i managed :L(Original post by IvetBelqta)
Nice memory! That was pretty much it
The one bit I mostly struggled with was about the free electron in the neon tube in Section B. I had a go at it and got some kind of answer but I am 99% it was wrong. Anyone cracked that one?

Re: AQA Physics A - PHYA4 (11/06/12) - Exam threadYeah, considering I thought this was one of my hardest exams and so did everyone else in my class, 51 seems a tad high(Original post by Liam_W_)
I know this forum isn't representative of the reaction of everyone all the time, but I still think the grade boundaries for this are really high considering, jeez. 51 A 45 B 39 C..
. Either not many people are getting an A this year or it was easier than we all thought.
