Re: AS - Edexcel - Government and Politics - - unit 2 - 21st may 2012i'm going to be in this exam as a retake - no idea why though, just to boost my mark but oh well - i'm really nervous!(Original post by Mcfly101202)
Hey (:
Anybody else sitting this exam??? Would be great to hear what you think will come up and maybe swap past essays - i'm looking for advice on style for the 40 marker really.
Thanks!
as far as the 40 markers go, i've always been told to do a quick plan before you answer it, then as you look at your initial ideas, youy can start with perhaps one of the weaker answers and build up on that with better answers/points.
You must also be aware of cohesion, so if you have a question on parliamentary sovereignty such as where it truly lies, you could start with the fact that in the UK, parliament is sovereign. The next point could just be a comparative such as 'in the us, sovereign is distributed in a federal system...' then kinda bring in the argument that there is quasi-federalism in the uk now due to devolution. so on a so forth. -
Re: AS - Edexcel - Government and Politics - - unit 2 - 21st may 2012Same! Retaking and very nervous about it...(Original post by Guygp)

Same! Retaking and very nervous about it...
How have you been revising for this exam?
i've used my revision notes AS book which has been so helpful as the notes are all short and simple rather than wordy which many other books are.
i've used flashcards mainly, and spoken aloud as i'm an auditory learner, still i'm so nervous!
I've looked at constitution, parliament and pm & cabinet. -
Re: AS - Edexcel - Government and Politics - - unit 2 - 21st may 2012This is a sources paper, you answer two sections, each section has an option of two questions(Original post by HLPCP)
How are these questions even set out? I've had no past papers from my teachers and i'm not sure what the marks for each question are?
for the first section the question would be
(5 marks)
(10 marks)
(25 marks)
The second question would be
(40 marks)
Where necessary remember to refer to the source, this is for (5 mark) and (10 mark) questions. -

Re: AS - Edexcel - Government and Politics - - unit 2 - 21st may 2012
I've tried to cover all four because i have no idea what i might answer.
Hows everyone done when finding up-to-date relevant stuff to throw in for high marks? I'm using the politics review magazine, that's got load of good stuff on it. Copied it up - anyone want it?
ALSO anyone got any essays they've done (40 MARKERS) and want to share? That would be reallly really helpful. -
Re: AS - Edexcel - Government and Politics - - unit 2 - 21st may 2012
So today im focusing on the constitution and going to try write up some essays,
im doing past paper questions (and some others);
identify 2 constitutional reforms and how they were designed to improve the constitution (5)
explain why the coalition government embarked on a programme of constitutional reform (10)
how have the reforms created better protection of rights in the UK? (10)
explain the arguments in favour of a codified constitution for the UK (10)
to what extent can the British Constitution be seen as 'outdated'? (25)
how and to what extent does the UK constitution remain undemocratic? (25)
make out a case against the adoption of a codified constitution for the UK (25)
to what extent has the British Constitution been effectively reformed since 1997?(40)
to what extent have constitutional reforms since 1997 reduced the powers of the UK government (40)
assess the arguments in favour of introducing a codified constitution (40)
to what extent is the UK constitution 'outdated'? (40)
how, and to what extent, has parliamentary sovereignty been eroded in the UK? (40)
to what extent has the location of sovereignty in the UK changed in recent years (40)
how success has constitutional reform been since 1997? (40)
constitutional reform since 1997 has not gone far enough. discuss (40)
the advantages of a codified constitution now outweigh its disadvantages. discuss (40)
the UK constitution is no longer fit for purpose. discuss (40)
can anybody think/has done any other questions that i've missed out? -
Re: AS - Edexcel - Government and Politics - - unit 2 - 21st may 2012I would love a copy of that! Would be fantastic because I struggle to think of relevant, recent points. I'm going to try and get some 40 marks essays done and get my teacher to mark them, if I do I will upload them(Original post by Mcfly101202)

Re: AS - Edexcel - Government and Politics - - unit 2 - 21st may 2012
Do you guys think it is likely that they are going to ask a question on the Reform of the House of Lords, due to it being in the news at the moment? I'm not sure whether I need to revise this or not. I have just emailed my teacher so if any of you are wondering the same thing I will let you know as to his reply

EDIT: Here is what he said...
"There is a possibility of them asking about reform; though, probably of parliament as a whole e.g. boundary changes, 55% needed now for a vote of no confidence, prerogative powers and HoL and democracy is key.
Ensure you know the proposals of each party e.g. Clegg 80% elected and Cameron personally opposes reform but is supporting it in order to aid the constitution.
Milliband is just, really being a Milliband -he opposes reform currently just to spite Clegg!"Last edited by LFS; 17-05-2012 at 15:14. -
