    Extra costs? :(
Hey everyone. I'm currently applying for my accommodation at the university of cumbria. It says on the application that the price for the accommodation is for min. 42 weeks. I've worked out that i start half way through september and my course ends at the start of may. This approximately comes to around 34 weeks (inc. christmas and easter break)
why do i have to pay for an extra two months when i wont be there? seems abit pointless to me. Is there any way around this?

    Thanks

I doubt that your course actually finishes at the start of May. Although teaching may finish then, it's likely that exams will continue until the start of June, so you will still need to be there.

I suspect that the additional bit after that is to see you through until the contract starts at the beginning of July. At Manchester, you have to move out of halls by 21st June, but housing contracts for the second year don't start until 1st July, so everyone either has to take their stuff home (often to the other end of the country, in multiple car journeys because they have too much stuff) or pay for storage over the summer, whilst being effectively homeless for those 10 days. It's a pain, so there is method in Cumbria's madness.

Unfortunately, there won't be a way around it - if you've signed a contract then you have to pay, there won't be a break clause in there, and if you don't pay then they won't let you graduate.

well exam time is usually may-june if your course has exams. means you dont have to rush to move your stuff the moment your exams finish this way as well. and you can keep things in your room over christmas and easter, you dont have to take everything with you.

well most of the people who will be in halls probally do, so they couldn't just make a shorter contract just for your course
