    Quick question about Thermal Strain
    Does thermal strain induce stress to a bar of steel, for example, lying on a table ??

    Generally speaking, only if you clamp the bar in such a way as to attempt to prevent it from expanding/contracting.

    It helps with a little background in such questions.
