Should I tell my family that I missed an exam?
I was really ill last night and only managed to fall asleep at half-fiveish this morning when I had an exam at nine thirty. I slept through my alarms and only woke up at nine and rushed to uni but couldn't get into my exam as I was over half an hour late. I've already filled out extenuating circumstances forms, told my personal tutor and have mad an appointment with my GP to get a medical note (I have a chronic condition that had a flare-up) so I should be able to re-sit it.

But I'm really unsure if I should tell my family that I missed the exam (I go home every weekend as my uni and halls are on the other side of London). I feel like they might just take it as me messing up and being unable to cope with uni. I don't ever lie to my parents and have a really good relationship with them so would feel really uncomfortable lying when they ask me about the exam but I don't want to worry them.

    What would you do?

I think this has probably happened to 3/4 of students. Don't worry about it too much, hopefully the extenuating circumstances report will make up for the loss.

tell them you're pregnant/have got someone pregnant and you're getting married because it's what God would want, then when you say you were kidding they'll be so relieved they'd laugh off anything short of murder

it's what I do all the time

I regret lying to my parents in the past and getting found out, only to lower my trust with them. Don't ruin your trust, tell them the honest truth and they should respect and trust you enough to know it was a honest mistake, I'm sure they understand your condition (whatever it is) more than anyone else and how it can affect you.

Tell them. They should be understanding of it.

I wouldnt tell them after the reaction I got from my mum after being late for an A level exam. They don't need to know so there is no point telling them. Some families have the "we dont keep secretes'" attitude which my family doesnt have it all. Not saying anything wouldnt be considered a breach of trust in my family, my parents wouldnt be anymore annoyed at the fact I kept it quiet. If I told my parents I think they would be a bit suspicious of why I would tell them.

That depends, is there any other way of them finding out otherwise? Of not, I wouldn't personally... But if these reasons are 100%legit then why not! Maybe they can give you a call to make sure you are awake next time
