    Too late?
Hi, I'm in year 12 so I'm just starting my June exams.

I've been undecided on what I want to do at uni, but recently I have decided I would like to do veterinary. I'm expecting AAAB as AS levels in biology , chemistry , maths and physics.

However, I have no work experience yet. Is it too late now to get enough work experience? If not, when does the work experience have to be done by?

It really depends on how quickly you can get your summer organised. Start on the essentials first: SA vets (Try getting at least 2/3 different practices), LA vets, kennel/rescue, equine, dairy. Obviously you won't find lambing at this time of year but try and make up for that with some other farm exp. Abattoir/lab if you can get it. Maybe see if you can get a long-term placement to do in your weekends all summer?

Your application needs to be sent off by early-mid October, and it's the Personal Statement that you need to fill with your experiences. As long as you absolutely make the most out of what you do and show a full understanding of it all in the PS, that'll make up for possibly having less weeks than some people. If you apply to Edinburgh you'll have until late October (When you send off your WES) and there's a space for 'additional comments' in which I mentioned that I was planning on organising some more placements.

Try and aim for Liverpool's minimum - that should be alright with other unis - but I wouldn't apply there since most interviewees seem to have 20+ weeks.

If it's not your year, don't worry! A vast number of vet applicants get in after a gap year which they spend getting a hell of a lot more work ex (Essentials and some fun different stuff) and working etc. If you get in that way, you'll never regret your gap year.

    Good luck.

It's not too late, I'm in the same position, with no work experience yet :/ But it's not about how much you have it's more important that you learn things from your time there Good luck!

Although this is, in essence, true, many vet schools have minimum requirements for work experience and will not consider your application if you don't meet them, see link below where I've posted these:

You've got until December/Jan really to find something and in the best scenario, get it finished. You've enough time, as you wont really write your personal statement until November-Feb

For most course true, but for veterinary, dentistry, medicine and oxbridge applications, UCAS applications must be submitted including personal statements by 15th October latest
