Unemployment falls to 2.63 million
Unemployment has fallen for the second quarter in a row according to official figures.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18084679
'The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance fell by 13,700 to 1.59 million in April, despite recent data showing that the UK slipped back into recession at the start of 2012.'
'Youth unemployment has also fallen, down by 17,000 over the latest quarter to 1.02 million.'
Maybe a sign that things are starting to improve on the unemployment front? -
Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 millionHow much of that is part time work though? Theres a decrease in the number of full time jobs at the moment, with temporary posts being created instead. So I wouldn't be surprised if the figures continue to rise and fall for the forseeable future.(Original post by Cannotbelieveit)

Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 million
There's a program people on JSA are required to attend full time after they've been claiming for a certain amount of time (about 6 months).
During their time there they're considered fully employed.
For me, all the statistic means is that more people have remained on JSA for long terms. -
Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 million
Recession means two quarters of negative growth. You can lose more growth in one term yet it wouldn't be called a recession and the lose less growth in the next two quarters which is why most news outlets commenting on this which don't even bother to include graphs are retarded.

Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 millionEmployment figures tend to lag economic growth by a few months. It takes time for a company to decide to employ someone, get it approved, place an advert, interview, hire someone and then actually have them start work.(Original post by Cannotbelieveit)

So, all else being equal (which as other have alluded to may not be the case), these figures are telling you about the confidence of companies towards the end of last year rather than their confidence at the moment. -
Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 millionBut obviously if unemployment went up you'd proclaim that as gospel and blast the evil Tories for shafting the working man, right?(Original post by Martyn*)
A sign that the figures can be manipulated. -

Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 million
Thanks to the breaking up of the Eurozone, the UK economy won't be back on course until the Autumn of 2013 at the very least. People are kidding themselves if they think Labour would be performing any better. Higher debt levels, interest rates and inflation would be the only results of higher governemnt spending right now due to the apparent lack of spare capacity in the economy which actually shrank far more in the massive recession of 08/09 than we truly realised.
John Maynard Keyens would be ashamed of Ed Balls' ridiculously irresponsible fiscal policies. That said, the Chancellor could be doing a lot more to promote growth in the medium to long-term. -
Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 millionWhat I'm getting at is you have a nasty habit of proclaiming that anything that might put the current government in a good light must be the result of fraud. Either provide proof of such, or frankly shut the **** up.(Original post by Martyn*)

Re: Unemployment falls to 2.63 millionMy accusation against the government was that their associated think tanks and statistic analyzers can manipulate data. I'm not sure what you are on about.(Original post by pol pot noodles)
