Don't know if I'll be able to find anyone else here taking this exam, but in case there are people, here's a discussion thread!

It's been a while since you posted and nobody's replied yet...maybe you should check out MarkedbyTeachers.com, TSR's sister site. It has the largest library of essays in the UK.

They've got over 181,000+ coursework, essays, homeworks etc.. all written by GCSE, A Level, University and IB students across all topics. You get access either by publishing some of your own work, or paying £4.99 for a month's access. Both ways give you unlimited access to all of the essays.

All their documents are submitted to Turnitin anti-plagiarism software, so it can't be misused, and the site's used by hundreds of thousands of UK teachers and students.

What's more, you can take a look around the site and preview the work absolutely free. Click here to find out more...

I'm doing this exam...although it appears nobody else is...tbh I don't find NM too difficult in theory, but there's lots of formulae to remember and its easy to make mistakes in practise. However after a few past papers you can basically know exactly what the questions are going to be like, which is always a good thing how's your revision going?

Anyone else taking this exam tomorrow? :holmes:

It seems a pretty rare module to do, but I thought I'd ask

I've done all of the existing past papers, so I feel fairly confident in that regard. And I normally finish comfortably time-wise, which means that there's lots of time to check.

I think the grade boundaries are fairly high though.

This is true...I find it weird how some modules seem to take a lot longer than others even though they're all meant to be the same length.

I haven't actually looked at grade boundaries...what are they like?

have you done the January 2012 paper? I have a copy if you'd like it

I have, but thanks for the offer!

Well in Jan 2012 it was 61 for an A and 54 for a B. And this time last year 62 for an A and 55 for a B. So not that bad I guess.

No problem that's quite a bit higher than some papers but it doesn't seem impossible...what are you aiming for?

It should be fine, as long as I don't make a stupid calculator error in the first part of the question :crossedf:

That's what I hate about NM...especially as I found out my calculator was banned so I had to make an emergency trip to argos last week :unimpressed: Still...should have lots of time to check if all goes to plan

How did everyone find it? I thought it was ok except for the simpson from trap rule one and the spreadsheet one!

Did all your functions of x in false position come out negative so you kept using the interval -1 and the new x?

    Didn't see this thread Greg

What did you do for the simpsons rule from trapezium one, did u calculate midpoint rule estimates?
The syllabus explicitly mentions S_{2n} = \frac {1}{3}(4T_{2n} - T_n) as required knowledge. But it's not in the textbook, and I don't think it has ever been examined in previous papers!

Yes they did. Felt a bit weird, but hey...

I wasn't sure how many significant figures to give those answers to though. In the end I gave both to 1dp, but mentioned that they were correct to 2dp using change of sign.

Surely its equivalent if you use the formula to find the midpoint first.

Yeah thats what I thought, and thats what I did, did you do the same?

I sort of mentioned that but false positions gives answers in an interval compared to the secant so the interval of -1 to -0.6 something seemed a bit iffy but either way I argued both ways.

Yes I did that, it just means that we had to round it when we found the midpoint but I did 6 dp so should been fine hopefully.
