I took this exam in January earlier this year and got a D. Thought I was ready but I may have been wrong.. So I started revising extra early for the exam tomorrow :biggrin: lol not really i started yesterday. But it seems pretty okay. Anyway I thought I would give some tips! (not that many will take my advice after saying that)
But the best thing to do is go through every single past paper on the MEI website and with every question you get wrong, write all the solutions down and memorise how to do them. Although that may be hard the day before the exam so maybe a few of the past papers will do!
Good luck although I hope you all do dreadfully to lower the grade boundaries for me. (If you could that would be great! Cheers.)

hey guys, what are all the experiments that we need to know the details about?
ones i can think of so far are
-free fall of ball
-inclined plane with little car
-stretching of a metal wire

are there any more!?
MEI is for the mechanics module of A level maths, not physics I'm pretty sure...

mechanics jan 2012 is attached plus its markscheme. take a look, pls revise , lets all get A's lol
read young modulus experiment

galileo and aristottle experiment and their observations.

for young moduls, they might give us cross sectional area as mm^-2 like in january 2012 paper. learn how to convert units.

look at prefixes aswell just incase. never know what might happen.

They could also ask how to detemine the centre of gravity, of an object.

These are the marking points they generally want, when they ask how to do the experiment:

1. (Suspend plate/object from a point and then) mark a vertical line on the plate/object
2. use Plumb line to determine a vertical line
3. Hang from another point / place (and draw another vertical line) (wtte)
4. Where the lines intersect gives position of centre of gravity (wtte

I had RS. It went really well, the paper was perfect for my needs. I got a C in this in January, hoping for an A. Hopefully.

can i use p=fv for both of them?

240/(0.5×1032)2×π=Stress 240 / (\frac{0.5\times10^-3}{2})^2 \times \pi = Stress

Same material therefore same breaking stress.

FA=Stress \frac{F}{A} = Stress

F=A×Stress F = A \times Stress

(15×1032)2×π×Stress=Force (\frac{15\times10^-3}{2})^2 \times \pi \times Stress = Force

What I did when I did that question was 15/0.50 = 30.
Breaking force equals 240 x 30^2.
Because 15mm is 30times bigger than 0.50.
And the breaking force is proportional to force x factor of increase squared.
Remember breaking force is proportional to speed^2. So I used that to sort of help me. Hope it makes sense.
Both methods get the same answer but breaking force is proportional to speed^2? Don't you mean BRAKING DISTANCE is proportional to speed^2?

GPS is rarely on the papers so expect a question, and also know how to spell "trilateration" correctly, and perpendicular, easy easy marks :smile:

I reckon crumple zones and projectile questions will come up
