Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.
So, I'm currently in my GCSE year and have started to study for my exams. The first day of sixth form is getting closer so for all you sixth-formers, any advice on preparation for sixth form during the summer holidays and advice for the first day? Thinking about it even makes me nervous

Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.
I went to a different college to all my friends from my old school, so if you're in this situation you'll just have to meet new people. Other than that, for me it was exactly the same as school (minus the uniform). If you're staying in a school you've been in for years I can't imagine much changing.. Just the fact you start slightly harder, more interesting subjects.

Take pen and paper. -
Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.
take a calculator, even if you're not taking maths. And all my subjects had a test in the first lesson so be prepared but don't worry too much about it. It's just so they can get an idea of where you are before GCSE results come out. I can't say much changed in year 12. Have fun!

GCSE results come out in August. AS levels begin in September.

Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.Ahh but I thought you were asking about the week after exams where you go to different schools and have a few lessons to see what its like. We did the tests in lessons then- not september. There was a lot of subject changing that week as people realised they hated maths or their teacher etc.

Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.
I went to college with the thought that parties would be a regular thing with everyone invited, turns out its just me still with the same friends from high school, but on an academic note be prepared I personally didn't find the job that hard but some people do and its better to stay ahead from the start.

Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.
The sixth form is part of my school, so I didn't have any problems with 'not knowing anyone', but seeing all of the new people come in, they have all found friends, so you shouldn't have a lot to worry about. Understandably, you'll most likely become friends with the newbies at first, but eventually you'll meet others through your classes etc.
Tip: Do NOT **** around too much, it will come back at you when you start revising for exams. -
Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.Ah, right - sorry! I wish that we did that; it would make decisions so much simpler(Original post by minthumbugs)

Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.There is definitely preparation required, and without it you're going to be pretty disadvantaged.(Original post by Safiya122)

Aaaand that's about it, not gonna lie
Seriously though, I'd go for folders for each subject (not ring-binders, they will break and rip your work and you'll be absolutely screwed :P I speak from experience!). One of these http://n8tip.com/wp-content/uploads/...ile-folder.jpg can be useful, try getting one for each subject, as the moment you stop organising your bits of paper, it becomes a very bat habit
Speaking of paper, http://www.gowerbusinesscentre.co.uk...e/DSC01650.JPG is every sixth former's dream. If you're doing maths, you generally do it on lined paper, but a few people like to get little squared paper books like these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silvine-Oran...7188901&sr=8-1
So. Pen, paper, folders. A calculator, of course (standard issue Casio 85GT, or if you're doing maths get the 991ES Plus) will be necessary. A satchel would be a good idea, as rucksacks are just urgh in sixth form http://www.watchwatchwatch.co.uk/eba...ph515black.jpg is what I got in addition to my rucksack (rucksack is only for when I bring my laptop). About laptops - they're not necessary, and are just a distraction. Seriously, of the top 10 students in our year, not one brings a laptop, and it's hardly a coincidence that the opposite is true too. I only bring mine now because I'm coming into school for exam leave and I need past papers and stuff as I'm off-timetable - I had never done so before.
Don't bother getting your textbooks until the first week when you know which ones you'll actually need (I made the mistake of buying beforehand and two of them turned out to be unnecessary). You've obviously got your TSR account setup, which is the only other necessity, so that's all you need
good luck in sixth form

Re: Preparing for first day at sixth form TIPS.
I went to 6th form at the same college i'd been going to for my secondary education. I'm approaching the end of yr13 and for me it has been so much better than secondary education because of the fact we are treated more like adults and the fact that the people i didn't like left
. You'll also have free lessons which you can do as you please with them. Studywise be prepared to hit the ground running as it is a big step up from GSCE as you are expected to do more work out of lessons and the pace of learning is significantly faster. Oh, and you need to supply your own paper as the college stop doing it after GCSE.
