Aldi
Hey all,
Just started shopping at Aldi and have found that their food is fairly good quality and good value for money. Anyone else shop here? Definitely good for a student budget! Was a bit sceptical at first thinking it was a bit of a crap brand but it's actually really good for veg etc!
What are your views?

I think they also have some awesome deals with the random stuff they have in the baskets in the middle of their shops like medion laptops or other random things -
Re: Aldi
Aldi and lidl both have some serious advantages to them. Main things I tend to go for in aldi: coconut rum (£5/bottle, insanely better value than malibu), amaretto (gorgeous and also £5/bottle), chocolate (much cheaper than your average British supermarket, got much better selection and I reckon taste far better too), and their fruit and veg, especially the weekly deals you get (think selected things are 59p each?).

Re: Aldi
Lidl have weekly deals which are often extremely good value. The products are generally no worse in quality, and often better, than the standard supermarkets. You can't go there looking for brands, and often you can't even go there knowing what you want, but if you are prepared to take what they have it can be very cheap for decent quality. In particular, their meat is often orders of magnitude cheaper than Tesco even without the weekly deals, and there is always at least one weekly deal on meat.

Re: Aldi
Aldi offer seriously cheap wine, but very decent wine - its around £4 a bottle for white/red, and you can get a nice Marlborough for around £6, it'd be around £10 in tesco or any of the mainstream supermarkets. I got an Ozzy Clarke wine guide for Christmas, and he recommends a fair few Aldi wines, not only for the value they offer but the fact they are as good as, if not better, than more expensive wines.

Re: Aldi
There is some good stuff in aldi/ lidl.
They don't spend millions on advertising and **** you don't need like tescos/ asda/ sainsburys. So you're getting more for your money.
I don't really buy fresh stuff (locals are better for that) but some of the things like frikkadellens, biscuits, wheat beer. Not bad at all. -
Re: AldiTesco is daftly expensive in Ireland. In Roscommon we have a Tesco, Supa valu, Dunnes Aldi and Lidl and Tesco is the most expensive.(Original post by Jessticles)
Aldi/Lidl are both amazing for fruit and vegetables, other than a local grocers I honestly don't know why anyone would buy their fruit elsewhere. Perhaps it's different in the UK, but over here Tesco blueberries are over €4 for a punnet, aldi's are €2 for two.
However seeing as my better half works there when i move im going to have to shop there (unless i get my job of working in Dunnes which im hoping for)
