Re: Criminology at Portsmouth
Hello
How are you finding the course and the city itself? Also, what did you study before you went to Portsmouth? Do you find the work you have done this year has been really challenging? I'm quite worried as I think people currently doing their A levels would be better prepared for the course than myself, a BTEC student.

Re: Criminology at Portsmouth
I just finished my second year of Criminology with Psych.
I find the course really, really interesting.. some bits more than others, it's also really challenged me, especially this year. First year is mostly just the ground knowledge that you need, but it's still really interesting.

Re: Criminology at PortsmouthNo lectures are held in Ravelin House, its mostly just an administration building with the majority of the staff offices. It's also where coursework is handed in & feedback collected.(Original post by zacariah1991)
What buildings are most of the lectures/semesters held in for the criminology and criminal justice course? Ravelin house?
ICJS (institute of criminal justice studies) doesn't actually have a faculty building so we're scattered all over the place. I've mostly been in the north campus though, mostly Richmond and Portland in the first year for lectures, Dennis Schema for seminars. That was my experience anyway!

I find some bits difficult, I find the psych modules much, much harder than the criminology modules but maybe thats because the majority of the psychology just doesn't interest me as much.
None of it is "easy" and the department as a whole expects you to do your reading and to be able to demonstrate in seminars that you've done it. The lectures give you a base knowledge of something and then you're expected to read into more depth in your own time. I don't think thats exclusive to this course though, I think thats just uni in general!
It's tough to start with, but it gets more manageable. Seriously stay on top of your reading though, I'm so bad at this but my friends are so good and have such an easier time than me come exam time!

They asked me for BBB too but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it so hopefully they still accept me. Thank you for all the info!(Original post by Samz)
