Would people who have read this say it has 'literary value'? :holmes:
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. No.

It was obvious to me, even before I knew this fact, that it was very heavily Twilight-derived.
    Spoiler:
    Show
I mean, dark-haired, clumsy young girl from the West Coast who doesn't know how attractive she is (despite having a stream of guys after her) meets devastatingly attractive "mysterious" man. Despite being generally smart and independent, he reduces her to a wibbling mess just by being really hot. He keeps warning her off because he is "dangerous" to her. She whines for ages about whether or not they should be together...

The difference is that in Fifty Shades, they actually get to have sex a lot earlier. But even then, those bits are very repetitive after a while.

I'm not sure about a film version of this. They'd have to tone it WAY down to be allowed to be shown in mainstream cinema, which I think would rather lose the point, as without the kinky sex it's just a rather poor love story.
You are aware that it actually IS a Twilight Fanfic?
The writer just changed all the character names and send it off to a publisher.

Yeah, I know it is. What I'm saying is that before I read that particular fact, I still felt that the whole thing was Twilight with extra sex. It's just so obvious.

God, is that even legal? It doesn't sound like it should be :/

Apparently so. And the writer has done pretty well off of it. One would think royalties should be spread about...

But I think it's funny that people are spending £7.99 for each book when they could find it for free online.

    Re: Fifty Shades Forum
Ok so I picked this up mid-week because of my friends and their mums raving about it too me but not actually telling me anything of it. I noticed it in the numbers 1, 2 and 3 in the charts in my work and seen as they were half price I thought feck it. First chapter in and it just reminded me of Twilight, I then googled the author and the books and found that it was indeed a Twilight knock-off. I read the opening paragraph of the fan-fic on wattpad and it is word for word the exact same as the book, the only difference being names. Bella is you guessed it Ana; Rosalie (??) is Kate and so on and instead of Grey Inc. its Cullen Inc. I had to stop there.

I did pick the book up a few days later and read the entire 3 books within 3 days. The repetitiveness of the book is infuriating; it would only consisted of 1 book if you took all of the lip biting and the bare-feet out of the damn thing. It’s poorly written just like what it’s based on, so I’m only going to take it as it is an escape for middle aged women to get their socks off while their men watch football and take no notice of them. Twilight was for teens to fantasise and this is for all those twilight moms so they don’t feel ashamed perving over Edward/Robert.

However I would like to see Ian Smolderhalder as Christian, who wouldnt want that.

Okay, I finally finished the series the other week. Book one was ungodly hilarious. Book two is passably hilarious, though starts getting a little offensive. I wanted to rip my own throat out using the pages by book three. Honest to God, one of the most annoyingly un-feminist, inhuman books I've ever read. Just bits of it really got to me [[especially the wonderfully written 'The room was full of work men- and some work women!' Yeah, cos women sometimes work, didn't you know?]] Honestly, whyyyyyyyyy!

Oh, and I've heard Ryan Gosling and Scarlet Johannson are set for the main roles, is it true? I mean, I'm not going to see the movie [[boycotting it for crimes against humanity]] but serioulsy, that sounds like one hell of a weird pairing

So many girls on facebook post statuses about how good this book is... and refuse to accept that they're basically just telling the world what kind of porn they like

I did hear that Bret Easton Ellis (who wrote the screenplay for American Psycho) suggested those names. Is it really getting that big, though? :lolwut: I'm yet to see a proper positive assessment of the books from anyone.

I loved the original Twilight fan-fic 'Master of the Universe' trilogy but it's ridiculous that she just changed the names and sent it to a publisher. It was well-written for a fan-fiction but if she has quite literally just changed the names then you're going to emerge with a badly written book. What she should have done is started from scratch but I have the feeling that she wanted to get it on the shelves as soon as possible which isn't what good writers should be focusing on. You should want to produce a good quality book! I agree with the points made about it being extremely repetitive but I think for a fan-fiction it's a good read indeed. An actual novel? Not convinced.

It also baffles how people are automatically slating the books without even having read it or having just-is it just because it has an association with Twilight?

I have not read these books and don't plan to, but they are everywhere I go!
I may be a misery but it genuinely makes me sad that people who don't own a book will only pick one up when it's filth!

Bought the first two in tesco after my cousin raved about them and people kept buying them in work, one guy even said he bought it for his daughter!! hahaha bad move - got home and it started off innocently enough - the sex scenes are way too graphic, it's twilight porn for the middle aged and I'm actually ashamed to say I've read them, although I couldn't put it down :/ There isnt really a plot. the third one is much better. Sort of a plot in that one :-) I say sort of...

There does seem to be a large audience for this type of literotica because although this book is not written very well at all it seems to have gone viral because everyone is talking about it due to its naughty naughty giggle giggle content.

I wonder whether there is a gap in the market for this type of stuff targeted at men.

Instead of fiddling around with long winded stuff about "their bodies entwined and his long fingers explored her sex sending currents of electricity tingling through her body" etc, you could write stuff like, "he smashed her front and back doors in, and donkey punched her on the back of the neck as he finished, knocking her out like a bitch, before picking up his X box controller and taking it off pause to resume his game of Call of Duty till she came round"

It's terribly written for a novel. Like someone else said, I can see it being good as a fanfic but that's where it ends..

Saying this, I've still been drawn in :/

I've not got round to reading this "book" yet but I can say I think Alexander Skarsgaard would be perfect for the role.

I picked it up in Tesco, flicked to a random page, saw something about a 'deliciously big erection' and put it down again.
    No thanks.
