    The answer to the last question was 3.2
    What did u out for the multiple choice water molecule question?
    Also, would soaps be accepted for question 1ii?

    We should build up the answers. Here's most of them I've mapped out.

    1. i) making soap
    ii) Detergents - surfactants
    iii) Water treatment costs money, therefore wasting water would be wasting money.
    2. i) H2O

    Which is the most reactive, Li, Na, K?
    - Potassium

    What's the word equation of the reaction of Li with water?
    Lithium + water -> lithium hydroxide + hydrogen

    Soda is made from Sodium carbonate, name another one?
    -> Manufacture of glass

    How can you distinguish between sodium carbonate and potassium carbonate
    -> carry out a flame test:
    1. clean the loop of wire with HCl
    2. dip the loop of wire in the salt, then into the hottest part of a bunser burner (blue flame)
    Potassium gives a lilac flame
    Sodium gives a yellow/orange flame

    Why is copper used in electrical wires:
    -> Good conductor of electricity

    Why is copper used in saucepans:
    -> Good conductor of heat

    What precipitate will be given with Fe(III)+?
    -> Reddish Brown

    What is a pigment?
    A pigment is a dye which gives a specific colour, for example, it can be used in fabrics.

    How would you test for carbonate ions?
    Add HCl to the carbonate which would react to give off carbon dioxide, which can be tested using limewater which turns milky-cloudy.

    Why is excess oxygen used in sulphur?
    To fully react, so that no unnecessary waste is not leftover, which costs money.

    What does a catalyst do?
    It speeds up the rate of reaction

    Name the Catalyst which is used to make Sulphuric acid?
    Vanadium pentoxide

    What happens when you increase the temperature more than 450'c?
    You get a lower yield of sulphuric acid. The rise in temperature favors the backward reaction and not the forward reaction.

    What is the next (3rd stage) of production of sulphuric acid?
    You get the sulphur trioxide and you mix it with sulphuric acid, you get oleum.
    Then once you get the oleum you mix it with water, to get sulphuric acid.

    Why is copper there an oxidation reaction?
    ->Because loss of electrons

    Why its good to repeat the test?
    To improve reliability of the test.

    Fill in the missing gaps.
    2 H+ +2e- --> H2 (gas)

    Name a different indicator.
    Name: Phenolphthalein
    Alkali -> pink

    Question: Circle the functional group of the alcohol
    (-O-H)

    Give a use of a typical ester propyl methanoate? (something like that)
    Can be used as a flavoring

    How would you find out ethanoic acid, without using an indictor? (something along the lines)
    1) Use a metal e.g. magnesium and react it with it.
    2) Hydrogen gas is released which can be tested using squeaky pop test.

    What volume of HCL should he use?
    ->Discard the 1st titration.
    use the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and find the average.

    How he would carry out an accurate titration?

    1) Fill the pipette with 25cm3 of __ and fill it into the conical flask
    2) Then use burette and fill it with HCl acid, and turn the tap on gently making it drop by drop.
    3) Then Add 2 or 3 drops of Methly orange,
    4) Swirl the conical flask from time to time.
    5) As soon as the color changes, turn the tap off and record the results.

    The last question. gram/dm3 = Mr X mol/dm3
    Anwser: 3.2

    that was a really easy test except for a few hard ones. But now that everyone is mentioning it im scared that the grade boundaries will be high. Btw for the last question did u get 3.2 or 0.032
    And for the titration question what was the volume of sodium hydroxide used? was ur average 10cm^3

    the answer to the last question was definitely 3.2 because u have to multiply the mole conc with the atomic mass to get mass conc.
    For the average question, I got 9.677 - you never count the first value in your average when doing titrations. I did sense loads of trick questions in that test.

    Thanks, very confident by looking at those answers.. I felt the paper was quite easy compared to past papers but no-one else did!...how did you find it?

    Hey guys, for "NAME A DIFFERENT INDICATOR" i put RED LITMUS PAPER and it turns BLUE, is that correct also? Also, for the copper question, is MALLEABLE ok as it can be manipulated easily?

    For the equilibrium yield, i added that the reverse reaction is endothermic hence equilibrium shifts to the left of the reaction.

    MISSING QUESTIONS FROM FIRST POST:

    For the question on how much of Na2CO3 can be made i got -------> 212kg.
    For the moles part of the electrolysis question i got ------------------> 29.5 or 27.5 (cant remember)
    A precious metal that is harvested under the cathode is --------------> GOLD
    In the ester question --------------------> Alcohol: METHANOL Carboxylic acid: PROPANOIC ACID.

    Hey man! For the indicator question, that would be right.. but my Triple teacher said that malleable probably wouldn't get a mark for those particular copper question.
    Also, what did you put for the multiple choice question about making water. It had the answers of 5 dm3, 10 dm3, 20 dm3 and 24 dm3, and asked what volume of oxygen would be needed to react completely with hydrogen??
    Cheers!

    So you guys have done all the other modules too? I've done C1a, C1b, a couple of IAAs, but i need to do the C2 multi choice and structured; does anyone know how i could work out what i would need for the overall A*?
    2 IAA, 3 Multiple Choice, 1 practical skills and 1 of the written (short written) are worth 40 ums each = 280 (prior to the final written exam)
    The final written exam is worth 120 ums- bringing the total to 400ums.

    You need 360 for an A*, 320 for an A, 280 for a B, 240 for a C etc.
    So if you've got the multiple choice and the final paper still to do, you will have a score out of 240 right now. 90% of 240 (216) is an A*, 80% A etc. So work out what you're on, say, 220. This would mean out of the possible 160 ums remaining you would need 100 more for an A, or 140 more for an A*; from there you can work out targets for the individual exams; hope this helps.

    Apparently you only include the values that are between .1 of each other (9.8 and 9.7) so the average was 9.75

    I put 5 moles as there was a 2 in front of the hydrogen and a 1 in front of the oxygen therefore 1 mole oxygen forms 2 moles
    hydrogen so 5 dm3 oxygen ----> 10 moles hydrogen i needed 56/60 for a total overall a* grade, i have a feeling i got 55
    i REALLY hope malleable is creditable as every mark counts!

    Thank you so much Coveted Ul
    Does anyone have the paper they can upload?

    Another question i remember
    -How can you test for an acid without using indicator? (or something like that)
    -There was also a question about 1000dm and i remember putting 1000 as the answer?

    Oh I'm so glad, I put 5 too haha! And i somehow managed to completely guess 3.2 for the last one and get it right?!
    Good luck with that, I hope you get it, i think its easily possible for that paper.. I needed 54 for an A* and I'm kinda thinking I got around 55. So I do hope haha.
    I made a mistake on the second question though, where the answer was detergents; I assumed we had to choose from the uses being made, so put soap. Ahh well!
    I must say, I think the Biology and Chemistry have both been okay so far? So hoping the Physics is not like extraordinarily hard!

    Oh, and the acid without an indicator one, was where you add a metal to the subtance and if its an acid you get hydrogen and a squeaky pop thing
    Dont remember the other one though..

    Thankfully i put detergents but i think soap is also right Tom. Biology i needed 49/60 for an a* which i am confident i have got. I accidentally divided in the last question in chemistry instead of multiplied which i have beaten myself over! I am very nervous considering i made that very silly mistake, for that question on acid test without indicator i put react with an alkali (WRONG) but then i mentioned limewater and co2. Do you think i will get 1 of the 2 marks for that or will my wrong alkali mention negates further marks? :s

    Okay thanks, I hope so! Umm, I don't think you'd get a mark for that personally, because it isn't about carbonates or anything? But some mark schemes are pretty weird...
    Also, for the one about making sulphuric acid, I put about the oleum and then diluting it with water. But I then put to make dilute sulphuric acid instead of concentrated sulphuric acid:L. Would I still get one or two marks would you say?

    Did anyone else get 212 for one of the questions and think of that Azaelia Banks song?

    I put detergents for for the second part of question one, as soaps was the answer for the first one I didn't think they'd put the same answer twice.

    Also, for the definition of 'pigments' question, I put an insoluble compound used in paints. Do you guys think I would've got the mark?

    I really really need to hit the A*. I hope you all get what you were aiming for!

    Hard to say, mark schemes vary like you said, i forgot to put the word dilute, i just put mix with water. I obviously got 54 or 55, i will feel absolutely pig sick being 1 under an a*, i cant beleive i got a simple moles question wrong on the last page and didnt just put good electrically conductor the copper wires one, i'm too paranoid in exams, i thought they wouldnt want to hear good electrical and heat conductor in the same question so i put malleable (forgot the word ductile). Argghhh
