Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) Anwsersthanks! well i think i've lost about 5 marks on that paper, so hopefully i'll be ok. i know i got the sodium carbonate one wrong because i said detergents and the last question confused me, i got 4000, im probably the only one lol.(Original post by Coveted Ul)
Q1) That would be correct, because it said why we shouldn't waste water.
Q2) Correct, compound and salt would be the same, but you'd lose the other mark; you'll need to refer "into the blue flame".
Q3) Incorrect, as the temperature increases the yield decreases, even though the rate of reaction is high.
Q4) I think it would be correct, it did say mention a different one so yes.
Q5) Incorrect, you'll need the 2nd titration as well to find the accurate average for the volume of HCl.
Q6) Correct, it doesn't matter which order, you'll still get the marks.
do you know the grade boundaries for triple science? my target's an a*

Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) Anwsers
For malleable you'll only get the marks if you said it for the saucepans, because it could be moulded into the desired shape.
You could've said 'ductile' for electrical wiring, or good conductor of electricity.
I really can't remember the volume one. -
Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) AnwsersYeah, I have the physics p3 this Thursday.(Original post by hypanx)
Thanks. I think my major errors in the exam were that question and the titration averaging question.
Are you doing any exams on thursday? -
Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) AnwsersSame, i'm just doing past papers now, i hope no weird random questions come up like they do in the papers i'm doing!(Original post by Coveted Ul)
Yeah, I have the physics p3 this Thursday. -
Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) AnwsersIts 54/60 for the A* for this paper.(Original post by Sammy95)

Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) AnwsersYeah, you discard the first titration. And you add the 2nd, 3rd and 4th together, and divide by 3 to get the average volume of HCl.(Original post by LostPlanet2Luke)
Can you remember how many of the readings you were meant to use to calculate the HCl average? -
Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) AnwsersHopefully not. ;/ But I feel like they're going to put a weird question in there.(Original post by hypanx)

Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) AnwsersThe first titration is always rough titration, so ignore the first one, when averaging.(Original post by LostPlanet2Luke)
That is what i did but my friends said it was wrong as you only used the concordant data, who is right, can u be definate mate? -
Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) Anwsersbtw do you know what formulas we need to learn (not the ones provided)? Forgot about them(Original post by Coveted Ul)
Hopefully not. ;/ But I feel like they're going to put a weird question in there.

Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) AnwsersYeah, as far as i know the answer was: (something).67(Original post by LostPlanet2Luke)
Coveted UI are u sure about using all 3 to get an answer of 10 for the averages 1? -
Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) Anwsers
Yh cos wen the 2nd, 3rd and 4th titrations were averaged it came out as 10. I do think that my answer and the .7 answers are wrong, i really want to find out whether all 3 were meant to be used or the average should be takes from concordant data only.

2 IAA, 3 Multiple Choice, 1 practical skills and 1 of the written (short written) are worth 40 ums each = 280 (prior to the final written exam)
The final written exam is worth 120 ums- bringing the total to 400ums.
You need 360 for an A*, 320 for an A, 280 for a B, 240 for a C etc.
So if you've got the multiple choice and the final paper still to do, you will have a score out of 240 right now. 90% of 240 (216) is an A*, 80% A etc. So work out what you're on, say, 220. This would mean out of the possible 160 ums remaining you would need 100 more for an A, or 140 more for an A*; from there you can work out targets for the individual exams; hope this helps.
Thanks very much! I think i worked out that i can afford to drop 26 marks in the papers i haven't got results for to get an A*; i'm fairly sure i got around 54 in the final paper, so that's 20 UMS points i can still afford to lose hehe
thanks!

Re: C3 Edexcel Chemistry GCSE 21/05/12 (Unofficial) Anwsers
For the average titration question, you only take the average of 2, which were something like 9.8 and 9.7, which gave you an answer of 9.75. You discard the other one as it wasn't concordant, it was about 0.3 out which means you shouldn't include it
how do you know all this stuff?
