Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionHi ! All my friends and I put no as well as you(Original post by izzaha)
Hi I say the C3 paper today, do you know the question about whether there was chlorine in the egg shell, i said no/its difficult to tell. I put that down because it said that they used the liquid in test 1 and added the silver nitrate to that, the liquid in test 1 contained hydrchloric acid. Do you guys thing i would still get a mark for it?
To make chloride it would need nitric acid not hyrdochloric acid
Unless that's wrong but I think it is right so you should get marks -
Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam Discussion
New thread for C3 if anyone wants to post their answers?

Hmm.. Considering what all my friends thought, I'd say about 32/33 for an A*, and 29ish for a B? I've never been good at guessing these boundaries though :P(Original post by xoxlovelifexox)
that's what i told myself to comfort myself! what do you think the grade boundaries are going to be like, in your opinion?

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionThe egg one, chlorine was YES, it was chloride, and for aluminium it was NO, cuz it was magnesium i think(Original post by EmineF)
Did anyone else find that question on the egg in the c3 really hard? I thought it was horrible:{!

But yhh was difficult

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionIt was yes for chloride, no for aluminium since it was calcium, the red flame proved that. the chemical analysis q i put down chromatography and the reason being it is able to distinguish differences from similar atoms(Original post by maxtate)

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionMy friend who always gets 100 ums put the same as you - she and you were both right because the chloride from the hydrochloric acid is present, so you can't tell whether it was in the original substance(Original post by whoopli)

I however didn't write that, I forgot :L People who wrote that, like me, won't get any marks for that question, I can tell you that!! :Pxx

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionI screwed up on the titration(Original post by PurpleDolphin)
I did C3 higher, for the titration calculation I got 0.61, the gram thing was 12 and 810 for the bond energies

Also, MY BRAIN HATES ME! I forgot how to say delocalised electrons lol, so i put free flowing electrons in C2 instead, will that give me the mark

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam Discussionyeah I did C2 last year and I'm pretty sure you can say that :3 It's along the lines :P(Original post by zabi1)

Is anyone able to give me a prediction for UMS boundaries? Scared that im going to border it
I'd look at the one from January 2011 because the patterns of hardness and stuff suggest that this exam will be around as hard as the one three exams ago :P x -
Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam Discussionit was 'conclusion incorrect' for Chloride cos the white precipitate was a result of the silver nitrate reacting with the chloride ions in the hydrochloric acid mate(Original post by zabi1)
It was yes for chloride, no for aluminium since it was calcium, the red flame proved that. the chemical analysis q i put down chromatography and the reason being it is able to distinguish differences from similar atoms
and for aluminimum it was incorrect but only cos it didnt redissolve in excess Sodium hydroxide
- you are on about C3 right not C2?

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam Discussionthat sounds reasonable i guess, i think that was what they were last year(Original post by AngryBirds4)

Yeah i did but i'm sure i answered it wrong because i just didn't have enough time to look back on the c3! Do you remember how many marks that whole question was?(Original post by xoxlovelifexox)
when i first looked at it, i thought what the hell after i came back to it, i had a moment and i got it! did you manage to answer it?

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam Discussionmaybe for the two parts where they talked about the students, 2 each at max?(Original post by EmineF)

How about those questions where they were like...it contains aluminium ions, is this correct? Use the table to help you answer or something. I couldn't answer any of it, i did anyway but i doubt it's right(Original post by xoxlovelifexox)

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam Discussion
What was the answer to the electronic structure of transition elements?
I rambled about the 3rd shell being filled and having a similar number of electrons in their outer shell, but couldn't really explain why this gave them similar properties. -
Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionSure it was Chloride YES, Aluminium NO, but this is controversial atm lol(Original post by EmineF)

Andd im an idiot i put its not aluminium, but wrote it was magnesium when it was calcium :/ stupid elements.

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionMost elements depend on their outermost electrons for their properties. Because the outer shells are not filling up when going through the transition metals, but the inner shells, the properties will not change as much.(Original post by TheSilentFez)
