Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam Discussion
I think I have some 2012 papers which have been marked (only hard copies though) so I'll get those and check.
I have a hard copy of the mark schemes for C1 and C2. And a marked C3 paper.Last edited by Unescaper; 22-05-2012 at 15:59. -
Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionAre you able to send them to me? You can do it as scruffy as you wish, I will greatly appreciate it. Whether they are photographs or just a video of the pages, I will be grateful(Original post by Unescaper)

When would you like them by?
. If it will bother you then I wouldn't mind as long as it was before the exams

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionWell I remember Sodium = Yellow as Sodium is in urine and that is yellow?(Original post by Revision-)
Anyone got mnemonics to remember flame tests? (gratefully appreciated)
I mean I have loads of silly things like that I use to remember things

Why do transition metals have similar properties? (2 marks)
This answer was from a mark scheme:
-The 4th energy levels have the same number of electrons.
-The 3rd energy level is being filled.
Can anyone please send me a link to the syllabus? C3 exam -
I shall just remember that then(Original post by usycool1)
Transition metals are tough. They've basically lied to us in C2; the maximum is not actually 8. The actual maximum is
where n is the period of that atom.
All we need to know for GCSE: The transition metals essentially have the same number of outer electrons and their d subshells are being filled with electrons.
It's actually very complicated if we try to explain why

So what is the true maximum for the third energy level instead?

Would it be possible you could send them to me also? If it is no hassle(Original post by Unescaper)

I'm not gonna bother with the last bit of instrumental analysis, it hasn't came up before (ever) and the last questions are usually empirical formulae or titration calculations.
There has been a question on mass spectrometry and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy though.
Can someone tell me what the other spectroscopic methods are though because I'm not going to revise it

Re: GCSE Chemistry Unit 2 and Unit 3 C2 C3 24th May 2012 Exam DiscussionThe transition elements have similar properties and some special(Original post by AngryBirds4)
So is that why there's 10 elements per row?
Then why are there several rows if they all have the same number of electrons in the outer shell?

properties because a lower energy level (inner shell) is being filled
in the atoms of the elements between Groups 2 and 3. This is
because the third energy level can hold up to 18 electrons, once
two electrons have occupied the fourth level. -
