I think I have some 2012 papers which have been marked (only hard copies though) so I'll get those and check.

I have a hard copy of the mark schemes for C1 and C2. And a marked C3 paper.

Are you able to send them to me? You can do it as scruffy as you wish, I will greatly appreciate it. Whether they are photographs or just a video of the pages, I will be grateful

Well I remember Sodium = Yellow as Sodium is in urine and that is yellow?
I mean I have loads of silly things like that I use to remember things

Why do transition metals have similar properties? (2 marks)

This answer was from a mark scheme:
-The 4th energy levels have the same number of electrons.
-The 3rd energy level is being filled.

Can anyone please send me a link to the syllabus? C3 exam

Transition metals are tough. They've basically lied to us in C2; the maximum is not actually 8. The actual maximum is 2n^2 where n is the period of that atom.

All we need to know for GCSE: The transition metals essentially have the same number of outer electrons and their d subshells are being filled with electrons.

It's actually very complicated if we try to explain why
I shall just remember that then

So what is the true maximum for the third energy level instead?

I'm not gonna bother with the last bit of instrumental analysis, it hasn't came up before (ever) and the last questions are usually empirical formulae or titration calculations.
There has been a question on mass spectrometry and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy though.

Can someone tell me what the other spectroscopic methods are though because I'm not going to revise it

    The maximum is 18
So is that why there's 10 elements per row?

Then why are there several rows if they all have the same number of electrons in the outer shell?

The transition elements have similar properties and some special
properties because a lower energy level (inner shell) is being filled
in the atoms of the elements between Groups 2 and 3. This is
because the third energy level can hold up to 18 electrons, once
two electrons have occupied the fourth level.

Apparently the grade boundaries for Jan 2012 papers were as follows:

    A*, A, B, C
    C1 - 30, 26, 20, 15
    C2 - 36, 32, 25, 19
    C3 - 34, 31, 25, 20
