PGCE secondary History interview at Exeter Uni
Does anyone have any tips on the interview process? As in whats the structure like and what questions do they ask?

To be honest any advice from any PGCE History interview will be very much appreciated!!

I've not had an interview at Exeter but had one at Leeds Trinity and another at Cumbria both for a PGCE History

Leeds appeared to be quite weird (probably because of the amount of applicants they get through) with a group interview one day and then if you're successful an individual interview a few weeks later. It was more like a group discussion which you were expected to relate the question to your own experience within schools.

Cumbria was all on the same day and had a micro-teaching activity which you did in front of the course leader and then you had an evaluation with her straight after and then had an individual interview with her.

Each uni asked about pupil motivation, why you want to teach History, what experience you have and I was also given a scenario at Cumbria and was asked what I would do to solve it and also why the pupil(s) may be acting in that way.

From what I've gathered though interviews at different unis obviously vary.

    Hope this helps

Thanks very much for your reply....its really useful From what I can gather the Exeter interview very much follows the group/individual interview and a 5 min presentation on a topic and how you would teach that topic.

It's no problem, glad I could help You should be fine, just remember to reference to your experiences when needed, etc. A teacher I spoke to also told me to refer to the 'questioning' (possibly the wrong term but it's how I remember it) what's been encouraged for pupil's learning across the curriculum too!

    Good luck
