Re: what holds you back the most- in fulfilling your potential?this describes me and my situation perfectly.(Original post by cesca42)
Definitely internal things such as motivation.
I come from a pretty well-off family, privately educated, supportive parents (not pushy though). Arguably, everything external is ideal for me to fulfill my potential.
But... I have serious problems with motivation. I get distracted, my most efficient motivation is a deadline. Even then...
Maybe one could argue that because I'm already pretty comfortable, I don't feel such a pressing need to achieve my potential? I'm just lazy?
I want to achieve, I just can't seem to make the connection in my brain right now between hard work now and achieving my goals in the future.
Oh, and procrastination. Big problem right there. e.g. right now I'm on TSR instead of revising econ.
I have no hope! -
Re: what holds you back the most- in fulfilling your potential?Do you get a lot of things done for you, or is it just a general sense of well-being? I think you are probably right that some people from well-off backgrounds can be lazier than usual, but I am curious as to what the "cause" of that is. I suppose if you feel everything material is going to turn out fine, motivation to succeed becomes an issue.(Original post by cesca42)

Re: what holds you back the most- in fulfilling your potential? My family are what a lot of people would call rich and I get most things I want but I still feel like I want to be someone, want to succeed at something. I am quite lazy though in chores and stuff like that as I do get of things done for me, I don't have to clean or tidy or anything like that.(Original post by zara55)

it really irritates when I think about how much better my grades would be without it!
