Is it possible to do AS and A2 Physics in one year?
Basically, my college decided to stop running AS Physics two days before the day of enrolment, by I spoke with the Physics teacher and he said that he'll still do lessons once a week just to go through the syllabus (as if we were actually doing the exam). So I've been doing the lessons, practicals etc up to now, and I was wondering whether it would be possible to take AS next year (and go in for the exams this time round), and do A2 at the same time.

I think in terms of content Physics is not hard at all.... In my opinion there isn't a lot to learn.
To get a good grade in your exams you need to develop a more logical way of thinking compared to do other subjects
So yes it is possible & if your doing maths and find physics interesting... then definitely !

Depends on what else you are doing. How good your Physics & Maths is etc..

I basically self taught myself Physics this year (with the help of TSR members ) because my teachers were absolutely ***.. Although I only do AS, and not AS and A2 in one year..

    It is absolutely possible.

Like the others have stated, it depends on what else you've got going on. But more importantly it depends how determined you are. Basically, i've taught myself the As in 3 months, whilst having a full time job and a few other commitments (i'm sitting all the exams for the As at the moment). I do have an a-level in maths mind, but in all honesty the maths side of physics is genuinely not that challenging as they have made it a lot less difficult over the years so that people who are not taking maths are not at a huge disadvantage. Though, if you do have an interest in maths then there are a few advantages, particularly for mechanics in unit 2.

The only difference between physics and any other subject is that it requires, perhaps, an extra half an hour a day or so to absorb. I.e. some of the ideas are quite far-fetched and abstract, but, like with anything, the more effort you put in, the more you'll learn.

I say go for it, and good luck.

    You probably could
    I dddeeeefinaatellyy could not
I took 4 AS's this year and although some people find it easy, along with doing stuff at the weekend and sleeping its hard to find more time for another!
Physics definitely needs more work than my other subjects. During the year I didn't do extra, but i did the homework's
But I don't like my teachers, and my schools not really the best
I really hope you do well! my exams were ****

Well conveniently, I'm currently doing AS maths (along with the mechanics module), and my maths teacher will be running Physics next year. He's a really good teacher, and he also has a PhD in Physics, so it should go well. But I'm also wondering whether he'll actually let me do it :/

There's no reason why you couldn't do it, the content wouldn't be that difficult to learn, and it would certainly be easier than, say, doing AS and A2 maths in one year. If the teaching is good, you think you could cope with the workload and your maths skills are reasonably sharp then it would definitely be possible.

You could do it if you put your mind to it. I did both AS+A2 Further Maths in my 2nd year alongside 3 other A2's and, although the work load was extremely heavy, that was because I wasn't allowed to do A2 Further Maths at college so had to learn it on my own and sit it privately. Thankfully I used to have a private tutor come round to my house once or twice a week to clear up any issues with understanding/questions and it all worked out well. So if you do decide to do AS+A2 Physics in one year, don't forget to have a few sessions with a tutor - just for the sake of speeding things up.

it is possible but you'll have to put in alot of work...it will be easier if you are good at maths and remembering formulas

I can't even remember the SUVAT formulas for both mechanics in maths and physics! But I'll see what my teacher will say

So wait, what if i was to do A2 Maths, A2 Computing, and AS/A2 Physics in one year? Would that go well?

Wow. We have to take on extra Physics teachers. Our numbers are going up and up. I currently have over 120 students taking A level Physics with probably over 150 next year.

Dropping Physics when there is a nationwide increase in numbers?????

That sounds like a losing decision.

I didnt take physics for my IGCSE's but im planning on taking it for AS and A.. would this be a wise decision? or will i not be able to cope up?

What I tell students is that basically I dont care what Physics they've done before if their maths skills are good.

So wait, how much would skills in maths help in Physics?

Hugely - you need to be confident and accurate in basic algebra especially rearranging equations, trigonometry, y=max+c graphs, and later logs and expontentials . Calculus helps you understand some stuff and is essential for uni level work.

120 students doing alevel??? I go to a college with 30 students out of 3000 doing it. How big is the sixth form/college you teach at?

I found physics AS hard on its own, i would cry at the thought of doing AS and A2 in one year :O ! But im sure if you really like physics and have the mindset and determination for it then you'll do well. If you go ahead and to both then good luck

I've had two students do it in a year - one a few years a go and one currently just finishing.

The one a few years ago had already done AS maths. She got an A

The current one is a mature (25+) who has done some Physics a few years ago. he's aiming at doing Physics at uni. He's going to get an A* - he's got 100% on every module so far.

The hardest part was having me for 9 hours a week.

I've never had an average student try - and I doubt they would succeed.
