1. Physics Unit 2 - Forces in equilibrium help please !!
I have two questions that are quite similar that I dont quite get.

For the first question I put the normal reaction perependicular to the metal bar as in a normal reaction from the sign. This was wrong. Instead the normal reaction is at the hinge at an angle, I dont understand why this is so. Why is it at an angle and isnt there a normal reaction between the metal bar and sign ?

For the second question why is the force the foot exerts on the ground at an angle and not just straight downwards ? thanks

Ive attatched a copy of the questions

In the second question, the T arrow is at an angle because the leg is at an angle to the ground. (T is like a continuation of the original 'line' of the leg.)

And the first question...
As the hinge is the pivot, force C has to come from the hinge. I think that it's at an angle because force B + force C = force A for the sign to be in equilibrium.
For C to balance out B, C it has to act at 90 degrees to B so that the resultant of the two forces acts vertically, to balance force A.

I hope that helps
