Dsa - ipad
Hi Folks,
I'm going for a DSA assessment in a month or two as I recently had a dyslexia test and failed (or passed, depending on how you look at it).
One of the main probelms highlighted was the fact that I struggled to process visual movement and that my short term memory was awful (in the bottom 7% of people). Therefore the asser recommend in my dyslexia report that I get an IPAD (among other things like a speed reading course, dictaphone etc) because I was doing a pratical course, with lots of technical lifts and being able to record them will help learn the movement patterns.
What I wanted to find out was, if there if I PAD were available and if there are no what else would be available that I could do the same thing with.
And if there are any jealous losers who wanna b!tch and winge that i'm mouching free stuff, would be as so kind to jog on, that would be much appreciated.
Any helpful comments would be much more appreciated.
All the best.... -
Re: Dsa - ipadThe person who did your Dyslexia test should not be recommending any equipment. That is the DSA Assessors role. Don't get your hopes up as iPads are not agreed to unless a specific justification is accepted. As another poster says, you may be recommended a android tablet, but the apps are not sufficiently developed enough yet to write and edit large essays on, and the screen size is appalling!(Original post by Archie1991)

Re: Dsa - ipad
Okay cool, she did recommend a few other things, like im going to do this reading course that's suppose to improve some peoples reading speed by 50% and also blue printer paper etc.
Like I said above the reason she thinks an I PAD would be benefical is that I can record myself doing lifts nad watch them back. So as long as I can do that and type up a word doc, then i don't really care if its on a IPAD or android or whatever...
Can you get printers for these things??? -
Re: Dsa - ipad
Odd to recommend a tablet as a video recorder since it's not overly useful for such things, usually they're too cumbersome to record for long periods of time (their shape/size is awkward to record video/take pictures), and the video quality can either be lacking or take up memory too fast. A digital video recorder would be much better.
If the tablet has only been recommended for this purpose and no other then I'd suggest asking for a DVR instead, it would save the DSA money and be far more useful to you. -

If you do get an iPad or an iPod Touch then check out the app Coach's Eye. This let's you annotate video with audio and visual feedback e.g. you or your tutor can add lines as the video progresses to show things like what angle your legs should have been at during a lift. If you search YouTube for the app name then you'll find some good examples including a taekwando kick, a sprinter coming out of the blocks and a swimmer filmed from underwater. It costs about £3.
