Bedsits for Students in London
Realised I posted this in the wrong thread before so I'll just copy-paste here (sorry mods but I have to make a decision rather urgently now)
After spending a year in a flatshare with friends I've decided I'd be better off finding my own accommodation (in London) next year. A studio's way out of my budget so I'm looking at bedsits (ideally with kitchenettes) within zones 1 and 2. I was just wondering:
(1) Where to find such rooms? Gumtree seems to have quite a few but most don't specify whether the properties are on offer to students, or is it simply a case of asking landlords/agencies whether they are?
(2) What would bills be like? I guess internet would be more expensive if it's not being split between several people, but what about water/gas/electricity?
(3) Is it safe? I know I shouldn't but whenever I think of a bedsit I also imagine junkies hanging around all over the place..
I'd really appreciate advice from anyone with experiences of such accommodation. Thanks in advance! -

I assume you're a finalist, but I'd strongly suggest against bedsits. It's easy to get depressed, and/or just become introverted. That's fine if you spend every waking minute in the library, but you may not.
Also, my hunch is that it's *really* expensive, and you'd probably get something rubbish, although it depends where you go to university. You most likely wouldn't be able to afford anything in zone 2 area, maybe zone 3-4, but that increases your travel time and travel costs.
Maybe find better/new friends, or sign up to accomodationwebsites and try and share with professionals instead? That, and work out the real reasons as to why you think you should live on your own - lots of students say that, but in reality, unless you have specific reasons (say you're a mature student aged 40 or you have kids) living on your own isn't a) what you may really want and b) not the experience you were expecting! Good luck.
