Israel agrees with Russia's efforts in trying to get Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment. Israel feels any nuclear weapons obtained by Iran will be a threat to the whole world.
I applaud Russia for its efforts to continue diplomacy on this issue, and would urge all countries involved in the discussions to take up the invitation.

South Korea welcomes Russia proposals to resume New Iran Nuclear Talks. However it does feel that this option has been exhausted in light of Iran's proposals to continue uranium-enrichment. Both the US and South Korea are urging North Korea at the moment to return to nuclear talks. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Ban Ki-Moon made the call during talks in Washington, where they also underlined the need to refer Iran to the UN Security Council over its controversial nuclear program.

Noting increasing concerns over Iran's nuclear activities, both Rice and Ban Ki-Moon have said Pyongyang had received a clear message from the international community on the need for a nuclear-free Korean peninsula."We take note of what Chairman Kim Jong-Il said, that he would reaffirm the commitment to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and also commit to resolve North Korean nuclear issue peacefully through dialogue, particularly through six-party talks," Ban explained.

Ban Ki-moon said "as a country which has (the) North Korean nuclear issue, we have no other choice but to express our deep concern" over Iran's action."We've been very clear that we believe that the time has come for a referral of Iran to the Security Council," Rice said.

Russia along with the rest of the SC and EU understand that Iran is beyond holding talks with. The EU pursued talks until recently and has 'given up'. The talks that Russia proposes are a pre-SC talk with a number of nations prominent in the UN and EU on what course of action to take on Iran's nuclear intentions.

Progress is sehr slow in the SC - China would like to urge countries in the SC to now restart the debate.

We're still hopeful that Iran will consider our deal to allow us to enrich uranium for them at a very reasonable price: $$

The Republic of India applauds Russia's proposal to hold talks with Iran, and hopes this situation can come to an end without need for violence.

This has the ring of "ganging up" about it to me. Those countries involved in the talks must exercise caution and avoid what would amount to international backbiting in the absence of Iran.

Iran again emphasises that its nuclear intentions are peaceful.
If this is indeed the case, why should Iran not allow the IAEA inspectors into her nuclear facilities to prove her bona fides?

Germany would like to reiterate that talks will not be held with Iran, rather they will be about Iran's nuclear intentions (i.e. Iran is not invited and shall not be present).

We will simply consider suitable courses of action to take, the meeting is not for backbiting.

Surely then, Iran should allow IAEA inspectors at their nuclear facilities.

Iran will allow IAEA inspectors as soon as Israel does.

No petty disputes. And if India still wants gas from Iran, it is probably wise if it stayed out of this discussion.

India is stepping back from these discussion, as it feels it is wise not to interfere between the US and Iran. India also withdraws her earlier comments.

Why should Israel be brought into this? In any case, if Iran wants to claim the moral high ground, why not show Israel the way by example?
Reply 16
Whydoes Iran need to claim the moral high ground? We are developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and Ayatollah Khomeini has ruled it impermissible for Iran to have a nuclear bomb.
I would have thought any country would want to appear morally superior to its opponents in any situation. The question doesn't make sense.

We have nothing to prove to anyone. And we will not bow to American demands.
Who said anything about demands, or indeed America? The US rep has not set foot in this thread yet.
