Dudes, basicilly, the idiotic school I go to decided they would enter me for an exam I already got an A for, and theres no point me retaking as A* for the whole of English Language is impossible due to controlled assessments.

Now, the resit is tmo, and im entered! I went to the flipping exams officer, she goes come monday. I go, shes not there!

So if I simply dont pitch up to the exam, do I lose marks? O_O (Considering im actually entered for the resit)

I think the conclusion is good cos its short and sharp.

i've tried putting my text in colour to make it stand out but don't know if it worked sorry. < nope it didn't. I've seperated my points from yours anyway for each seperate paragraph...

I think this is a good answer and will probably be low band five or high band four, in my opinion. Other points you could include would be:

potential danger to the frequent exposure of radio waves. Dangerous to children.

Becoming addicted, spending time on them rather than playing or being active. obesity, unfitness etc.

Bullying, not having the latest phone or texting threatening messages in class.

People isolating themselves from friends because their blackberry becomes their new best buddy.

    Hope this has helped
Ok took your advice on board

Mobile phones have become increasingly popular over the last decade and although that should be something to celebrate, it’s has created new issues and problems in schools for the average teenager academically wise. There is a dip in achievements and grades in schools since phones have become more intelligently enhanced, students are too busy texting rather than studying or paying attention in class and theft has increased. Honestly it’s absurd the amount of issues that have risen; however there is a simple solution- ban phones from school

The answer is very simple. We must rule out the factors: firstly the biggest impact on students is the fact they have always got their mobiles within reach so they will most likely be associating during a lesson. Statistically a mammoth 89% of students in the UK own a mobile and an enormous 65% of students own a BlackBerry, which means due to the ever popular BlackBerry Messenger students can connect without Wi-Fi and thus proving my point of not paying attention during lesson.

A survey carried out by The Guardian shows that 4 out of 5 students or young adults are on their phone more than revising or studying and it has been said to affect their reacting time as well as their attention span. This problem is becoming a huge hassle because we can’t control what the children do outside of school and in their own time, nevertheless we can cut down the amount of time they use their phones in lesson and we will be doing this by banning and confiscating any phone that is taken out during lesson.

On the other hand mobiles are great to contacting family relatives for emergencies such as reassure the parent the child is going home safely or that the student is going to a after school club and is going home later than usual. But most schools take the minimum of 3 family relatives in the student’s database so a mobile isn’t a necessity. Theft has also become a new disruption as more than a dozen students have reported missing phones across the country. Andy Jones a student from a school in North London has said ‘My mobile was taken from me when I was in the changing rooms during a P.E lesson, My mother had made several reports to both the school and the local area but my mobile still remains to be missing. I was given a new phone but to be safe I don’t bring it to school’

It shouldn’t be the school’s issue to clear up and many students and parents complain saying it’s the schools problem; I feel that it’s an unfair judgement so to make things must easier I feel banning mobiles will the easiest solution.

Tried to colour the points i changed what grade did you say it was?

i'm pretty sure they take your best one but to be on the safe side i'd reccomend just going and trying your best. if they take your best one you've got nothing to lose ( other than 2 hours of your life) but if you don't turn up they could give you a U which will really affect your grade and no matter what u get tomo it will be higher than that.

no..they need you to write down your candiate number + school for your paper to count, if you don't it means your not entered really ... anyway Aqa takes your best marks only ( not sure about english but look at there infomation about re-sits policy )

At my school if you're entered in to an exam and don't go you have to pay a fee of like £60 per exam you miss, as the school pay for you to be entered in to exams

LOL same here! You have to pay for all your exams if you dont go to one.
But considering I specifically asked NOT to be entered & I didnt actually realise it was on my sheet until now, why do I have to go?!

Hi guys, I have an English exam tomorrow but I'm feeling unwell with the typical flu symptoms - headache, temperature, sore throat and cough. I only got these symptoms today and I have a feeling it will only get worse when I wake up tomorrow morning. The bad thing is, that apparently you must provide medical evidence to the Examinations Office within 3 days of the date of your exam, obviously it is too late for that now. I was also informed that "special arrangements" can be made for genuine illness, any idea what these arrangements are and any general advice?

I reckon it would be at least an A bordering on the A*, depending really on the examiner. You've used stylistic features, range of structures and punctuation... Maybe aim to use a bit more extended vocab if poss but from what I get and from going over the mark schemes constantly in class I would think that it would be unfair to give you anything lower than a high A. Obv though this is just part of it though so it would be marks. In which case I'd say 21 or 22. =]

Im not sure, but seeing as I didnt request to be entered, nor did I know until last friday, its the schools fault, not mine.

But do AQA for english take the latest mark?
And If I dont go, does that mean I get a 0 automatically?

Well for my school we were told that anything less than being hospitalised meant that we should still go and sit the paper. However, we should tell the invigilators before the exam starts and they can move you to be by the door (so that you can quickly get out if you need to) and I'm sure they'll give you water. You can take cough sweets into the exam as well, but make sure you tell the invigilators that too.

Overall, there's nothing much that they can do apart from make you feel more comfortable since unfortunately you're better off sitting that paper than not sitting it at all.

Your exam will only be a couple of hours and I'm sure you'll have plenty to concentrate on during that time. Just make sure you've got the necessary tissues etc. with you. (It'd waste time asking for tissues during the exam)

I guess it's really unfortunate that you're being put into that position - just focus on doing your best on that paper! Get well soon + good luck!

let your exam officer know and she will sort things out. If you need to sit in a room by yourself, have breaks ( they will b supervised) etc. Also a note may go with your paper explaining the circumstances which will b considered when marking. So if you are on the border for example the examiner will be more lenient and give you the higher mark. Hope you feel better !!

Special arrangements are just extra time, that's all. If you wish to take it do so.

    Lol don't worry

Motor Effect: Basically this is when a current is passed along a wire which is in a magnetic field (and the wire is not parallel to the magnetic field) which results in a force to be exerted on the wire by the magnetic field.

Lol question 5 is actually the motor effect We know this as the wire kicks forward (i.e. a force is exerted on it). With a more powerful magnet or a greater current, the wire kicks further forward. When the connections are reversed, the current flows the other way. This leads to the wire kicking in the other direction (Have you ever heard of Flemming's left hand rule? If so, you can apply it here )

    Make sense?
    TTTTHHHHHAAAAANNNNNKKKKK YYYYYOOOUUUUUU :hugs:

So much better than the book explanation.

Can you help me with the last question on the Jan 2012 paper? Nothing to do with the motor effector anything just don't really get it

    No problem

    Sure

    6. (a) You're told that the see-saw is balanced (i.e. at equilibrium). This means there is no resultant moment (i.e. no moment in any direction) so the clockwise moment of the two children would be the same as the man on the other side

    (b) (i) You know the moment of the boy AND the girl is 960Nm (the same as the man). So you simply subtract the moment of the girl from 960Nm to get the moment of the boy

    (b) (ii) Set up the following equation:
    960=360+1.6W

We get this equation because the moments on both sides must be the same. So the moment of the man (960Nm) equals the moment of the girl (360Nm) PLUS the moment of the boy (1.6W where W is the weight of the boy)

Then just use come simple algebra to solve the equation for W and get the weight of the boy
