Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?
Like others have said, I hope to hell it fades away. Most of the statuses are about fabulously menial things put up only to promote the person's smugness. I really couldn't give a cat's arse in hell that your shower water was tepid or that you're so drunk on a wednesday afternoon with the 'besties'. Please, shut up.
But yes, bring back going out of your way to talk face to face, not via a screen. -
Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years? You wouldn't be the first person to get annoyed over a Facebook status(Original post by Quick-use)
To be honest, I now see Twitter stealing the lime-light. Facebook is slowly dying away. No-one really bothers with it any more; everyone is busy with bbm, twitter or something like Youtube. I'm not saying that Facebook is unused; simply that it's not as popular. People do status updates (but it's usually the same updates by the random people: "Awkward moment when..."), and the chat isn't as popular as, say, bbm (which is obviously restricted to Blackberry) and nobody really looks at photo albums as much. It's all a bit just for show: posting a picture to prove that you've done something or are doing something (how popular!-NOT. Going to the toilets during a dinner out is NOT cool
).
Sorry, rant over.

Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?Yeah, I think it's become a kind of reflex movement for a lot of people. Bored: check facebook. At work: check facebook. Home: Announce that you're home *smiley face* on facebook. I dunno, it just seems like it's addictive for people to use.(Original post by ihatebrownbread)

Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years? So, just to clarify, you're saying you disagree with her?(Original post by I Gurn Hard)
Totally agree, couldn't agree more. I agree with you.

Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years? No, i posted a few posts before her the same thing, so followed it up with a post to express my agreement with the thing she said (because I too had said it previously)
I can understand the confusion though, sorry, not particularly with it (been up since 6am farming) -
Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?Well prob not tbh i doubt it ... The internet was deeloped like 20 years ago maybe ? So 50 years in the future who knows what we will be using(Original post by ihatebrownbread)
that gets me thinking i wonder if the internet will be around in like 50 years -
Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?
Imo it'll be going... But not necessarily still the biggest thing on the net. There were several 'biggest search engines' before google and most of them still have a page up even if they're not having any money spent developing them any more.
I'm pretty doubtful it'll make much money for investors in the ipo though. -
Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?
I think the timeline is supposed to make it last longer. So it essentially replaces scrapbooking but instead of leaving us with fond memories collected in albums for us to look back happily at our lives we'll get to see how boring things really were and how often we complained.
Sad times for scrapbooking. :'( -
Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?
I think its safe to say social media is here to stay....as for facebook who knows. It could go down the pan very quickly if they make a bad move - eg if they do one of their updates/revamps to the sites that brings in a feature that people really dislike, then you will get people leaving en masse and once peoples friends start to disappear they will ditch it as well.

Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?
I don't use it that much anymore really, mostly just the facebook chat to talk to people. My profile is still constantly updating without me doing much, mostly photos and other people's status' that i've been tagged in, or comments from other people.
But I don't think i've actually left a comment on somebody's wall in months (other than the standard birthday ones) and I probably average a status every couple of months
it's the only social networking site i'm on though, I don't have twitter or tumblr or anything (twitter just seems like a site based around the parts of facebook that I barely use such as the status updating so I feel like if I did sign up it'd barely see any use). But my facebook now seems to of just become a glorified photo album haha, i guess it's also good for event organising and stuff like that.
It used to be that I barely used my phone and just got hold of everybody online, but it's flipped recently and I just text people, then maybe check facebook for 5 minutes every now and again.
I probably come on here more than facebook nowadays, which never used to be the case. -
Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?
It won't last. Facebook has done well for themselves, but like everything else (MySpace, etc), it will eventually fade away, and people will get bored of posting their profile pictures continuously with the same caption "returnzz xxx". My God, what has happened to society?

Re: Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years?I rarely use Facebook, but I love Twitter. It's awesome. Facebook bores me, all people seem to care about is how many likes they can get on their status, and profile pictures. No-one actually posts any status that is relevant to them, just copy something that will get some likes. I always just think to myself, why? Why do you care about how many likes you get, what exactly is that going to achieve? They must think they're celebrities of the Internet because they got a few likes, and immediately believe they're higher than anyone/everyone else(Original post by Cll_ws)
