Drugs are rife at uni
Having started in september I didn't realise drugs would be this rife at university, I mean loads of people seem to taking/doing something or another.
Anyone else experienced this?
I've met a lot of people who say they have 'good' dealers and just the other day was offered nice big juicy roll up for £10... -
Re: Drugs are rife at uni
Where do you study? If its a city uni then its sort of to be expected. In my hometown I reckon 2/3 of people have done drugs at some point. Most people are pretty open-minded about it unless they've had bad personal experiences or seen negative effects on someone else and most people haven't seen that, I think. Also, a lot of people come to uni from sheltered backgrounds and realise that life isn't as black-and-white as they thought it was. I think this is the reason most people I've met at uni have done drugs. I know a couple of stoners but you get that everywhere.
I think it's because everyone's away from home so they can experiment and they do; not just in drugs but in sex, sexuality, hobbies, everything.
But tbh I'm at uni in Wales so there are actually considerably less drugs than I had imagined there would be. -
Re: Drugs are rife at uni
I was actually very suprised at how little I have come across. A lot of people are like me, they would have a bit if their friends were doing it but aren't going to suggest it to friends or find dealers in a new city. There arent enough people into it at my uni for people to form social circles around drugs so nobody really takes them. You get the odd suspisous smell as you walk past some peoples rooms but I havent seen any evidence of hard drug use. Thinking about it, if for some reason I did want drugs I wouldnt have a single person to call at uni whereas at home it would be half of my phone book. I think my uni would have one of the lowest drug use rates out of all the unis though when I went up to visit manchester uni, it was much more widespread.

Re: Drugs are rife at uniLincolnshire. But I don't think it's that high really, I know way more people from school who have done drugs to people who haven't. Weed is really big in Lincolnshire and most young people don't even seem to count it as a drug. I personally don't like weed, but I've still tried it and most people I know fall into that category.(Original post by Sternumator)

Re: Drugs are rife at uniI'm living in Lincoln. It's not really bigger than anywhere else, it's just more openly talked about. Harder drugs are less common though, bar perhaps MDMA.(Original post by willbee)

Re: Drugs are rife at uniI would guess about 20% from my home town have done it and only 10% at uni. I have never tried weed because the reported effects never appealed to me, I am always really chilled out and tired as it is so I don't really want more of that. Although trying it isnt going to do me any harm I havent done it for so long it wouldnt make sense to suddenly start doing it now.(Original post by willbee)

I think drugs are a waste of money. I'm so much less responsive than others are, I think I must have really low levels of dopamine receptors. -
Re: Drugs are rife at uniIf the guy who was trying to sell it thought he could get away with it then it could happen. Especially if the guy trying to sell one spliff for a tenner (lol) want a 10 bag later.(Original post by amirlad)
10 for one spliff? you sure? -
Re: Drugs are rife at uniI kinda figured that was a shocking deal, lol.(Original post by JCC-MGS)
