    MSc Nursing Funding!?
Hi everyone - I am wondering if anyone can help me!??

I have accepted an offer at Nottingham on the MSc Mental Health Nursing course which starts in January of next year. I understand that the information and relevant forms re the bursary etc will be sent out nearer the time, which is fine, it's the student loan that I am at a total loss with.

I went to an open day at Sheffield Hallam and attanded a talk they did on funding for post-grad nursing. They said that it made no difference if you have had a student loan before and would still get a student loan under the new funding structure. Then when I went to Nottingham, they said that if you have had a loan you can't have another one. I phoned the student loans company and spoke to a gent who said that nursing was in a different category so to apply.

I keep on getting e mails from UCAS informing me that the deadline is the end of this month, I have been on to the SF website and as I am doing a post grad course which doesn't lead to a teaching qualification, it tells me that I can't apply there. I have also been reading bits on various other websites and am completely confused as to what to do next!

    Can anyone help please?

    Many thanks

    Liz

    Hiya,

I've send you a pm as I'm in the exact same predicament as you, I am going to Kings to do the postgrad course. Are your first 2 years PgDip?

I've just got off the phone from King's college funding department. They've basically said that we are definately eligible for the maintenance loan under the new funding structure, and it doesn't matter if we've had a loan before because this is a professional qualification. The lady suggested that because the changes are new she's not sure how much training and information staff at sf have been given yet as they don't seem to be completely aware of the new system. Also, the fact that the course is labelled a graduate course will put them off apparently. In effect, the MSc courses are still DipHe, just re-labelled from graduates. (Deep breath). On the online form, we should be selecting DipHE, which should solve the problem.

Ultimately they wished me luck getting through to them lol

Hope this helps if you haven't already found out.

Hi, I've also got on to the graduate entry nursing course at Nottingham commencing Jan 2013 (child brand). I was also under the impression that we wont get a loan from student loan company as we've had a loan before. The NHS bursary would be a mere £5.5k which simply isn't enough to support us for the 2 years so I do hope that we can get another source of funsing.

    Hiya,

Hopefully by the time you need to apply the information will be much clearer . Ive been told that the new funding structure has evened everything out as before diploma courses (either ug or pg) received more funding than the BSc. In theory, now every nursing student regardless of the course type should have access to the same amount of funding. Im guessing there are a lot of teething problems with the system atm!

Hiya - I spoke to the finance dept at Nottingham yesterday who were really helpful. We are eligible for a loan, but we have to apply as if we are going an undergraduate course. As you said, it is graduate entry, not post graduate and that is the key difference. Student Finance aren't exactly up to speed with the new funding structure and told me initially that I wasn't eligible for a loan, but we are. Thank goodness!!

    Re: MSc Nursing Funding!?
So glad I found this forum. I'm having problems to and very confused. I have applied to Middlesex University for their Postgradate Diploma in Adult Nursing. I started making enquiries about the maintance loan months ago. The first couple of times I called I was told it shouldnt be a problem and I could apply as it was a professional NHS qualifaction. So I did apply but straight away I recieved a rejection letter saying that the only Post grad course that can recieve this is Teaching.

I contacted the finance department at my uni as well and they also informed me the course was ineligable. But after reading this forum I thought perhaps something might of changed so I called Student Finance again. The first time I was advised to go back to my uni and ask them as apparently the course on their system is flaggin up as ineligable. So I wonder if the universities or NHS need to inform them?

And the second time I called was after I found something on their website to say that those with a degree and applying for a course that attracts an NHS bursary can apply for the matintance loan but still apparently this only applies to the undergraduate course. I'm so frustrated. And wondering how this is fair? We are still applying for a profressional qualification and we should be entitled to the same funding as the undergraduates. I don't get it.

Sorry for the rant lol. Does anyone else have any information on this?
