    Shoulder Press
I am never sure whether I should do this exercise with support for my back or I should just do it with a bench and just try and keep my abs tight?

    What do you think?

If you're gonna do it without support you might as well just do them standing.

    Do both.

If you stand though, you always find a way to sort of jump at little though.

If I sit myself down I literally cannot do that....

Just work on form and keep your knees locked... Or switch to push press, which I prefer anyways.

Even with locked knees, you can lift your heels a little to give you some help.

    What is the push press?

How about you just don't lift your heels off the ground? Not hard.

I like both seated DB press and standing barbell press. Lots of big strong guys do seated barbell too. More than one way to skin a cat.

    Then you're doing it wrong.

You should be driving through your heels. Even when you push press your feet should stay flat on the floor- the drive come through the quads, posterior chain and hips.

If you're on your toes and hyperextending your back (which I assume is the cause of the pain), lower the weight, keep your abs tight, DONT lean back, push up and back, not forward, get your head through your arms, and maybe do some ab assistance work to strengthen em if your abs are the weak link.

Are you concerned with protecting your back or with keeping the press strict? In both cases, it's a matter of conscious attention to form. And maybe start wearing a belt for the heavy sets.
