Re: Full Metal Alchemist in AQA AS English Language exam 2012
It was in the first section of the exam where you are given seven random texts which you need to group into small groups and discuss their similarities and differences. Text D was the cover of FMA volume 1
I assumed I was the only one in the exam hall who knew what it was :P

Now I wish I did AQA English. What was the text saying? -
Re: Full Metal Alchemist in AQA AS English Language exam 2012
The question was:
'1. Study the texts A–G on the next seven pages. These texts illustrate different varieties of language use. Discuss various ways in which these texts can be grouped, giving reasons for your choices.'
The text was a scan on the cover where you had to analyse the text of the blurb on the back on and comment on the graphology which of course is an image of Edward and Alphonse.
I grouped it into a group of persuasive texts as the blurb and image persuades people to buy the book lol -
You could have talked about the layout of the book being right to left, so this blurb would seem like a front cover in terms of ordinary books. lots of contextual points there XD I think it's cool they put in though. At the beginning of the AS year last year I brought in manga and comic stuff cuz we had to get and analyse sample texts that could come up and the teacher doubted they would ever use them so...HAH to her. But I hope you did well ^_^

Yeh, when I saw this in the exam I was like ' Finally a text that is cool'. But then I was like 'How am I gonna group this I don't wanna use graphological features to group it'. In the end I think I grouped it through its use of pre-modifiers.
Who would have thought? I love whichever examiner decided to use it as an exam question.
