    household utility bills
Hi, I am living with 2 other guys next year in a house and was just wondering roughly how much we would be spending each month on household utility bills (water, gas, electricity, internet), could anyone offer a hindsight into their monthly bill based on 3 people??

    Thank You

We pay about £20 per month between 6 of us. Water bill is two payments of £120 a year.

Are you sure you don't mean £20 each a month? Otherwise, that's ridiculously cheap

That's £20 per months just for the water it seems.

I'd say water, electricity & gas might be around £50pcm (plus internet and TV license, total: £60pcm). Maybe others can confirm this.

    £26 a month each.

Might seem a bit steep, but we get through quite a bit of heating as our flat is an ancient stone-build.

If you don't watch live TV, a TV license is not necessary

Yeah thats what I meant. Worded it badly clearly.
£20ish each a month for gas & electric. £4.50 each a month for internet.
Water is £240 for the year.

It's going to depend a lot on how well insulated your house is, whether or not you've switched your utility providers to somewhere cheaper, and your usage patterns (e.g. how warm you keep the house).

However, I've been told £12-15pppw for next year's house, which is 7 people in a Victorian house with a loft conversion (so no space for loft insulation). That's based on the current resident's usage; I don't know if they've tried to switch providers or anything like that.

This sounds more like the average bill from all I have heard.

Anyhow, the loft should always be insulated. If there is no conversion, it's just rolled out between the joists. With a loft conversion it's straight under the roof between the rafters and there will be plasterboard on top. It has to comply with building regs and has to be insulated otherwise people wouldn't get the certificate from building regs.

We budget £10 per person, per week. TV License was paid before this. We should have some money left over at the end of the tenancy (based on money currently in the account - we pay via a joint account, by Direct Debit), which we intend to split four-ways. We have electric storage heaters, so our electricity is high, but our gas negligible. We seem to be paying roughly the same as other people I know!
