Had mine months, no scratches yet (at all, just checked). Haven't exactly been gentle on it either. So no need to worry. -

On closer inspection I've found about half a dozen tiny scratches, not more than a few mm long and only visible when you shine light at the right angle to cause them to reflect differently. They're all on the back as well, and near the edges. -
I've had my iPhone 4S for many months and an iPhone 4 before that... The glass it's scratch-resistant but not scratch-proof!
I use a cheap screen protector for both the front and back and haven't had to change it since the day I bought the phone. It doesn't decrease screen quality or sensitivity but that varies between covers and personal opinion.
I'd recommend using at least something as once the glass is scratched, it'll cost a lot of money for a replacement. One stitch saves nine
