There was a man who loved to race around the college I went to, as we waited for the bus. He took a speedbump a bit too fast, and his exhaust fell off and dragged behind the car. He had to stop, pick up his exhaust which he then dropped because it was hot, then managed to get it in his boot and drove off. Priceless.

Re: Most embarrassing driving moments(Original post by ninth2)
I have at least one on every lesson.
First one was simple but horrifying: It was early days in my driving education, and ditzy me reached over for the gear stick a bit too urgently and... touched my male instructor's thigh. (I'm a boy.)
2: He stands outside on the 'break' (2 hr lesson), and asks me a series of show me/tell me questions. He asks me to put on the front lights by pulling the left 'stick' towards me. I push the right one, and a stream of water is propelled out and slaps him in the face.
3. I followed a bus into a bus stop. I have no idea why. Me, my instructor, bus passengers, bus driver, and pedestrians were all very confused.
My test is a week Tuesday.

This didn't happen to me, but heard of someone who was doing her driving test and the assessor asked her to do an emergency stop. So she slammed on the breaks and his toupee flew off and landed on the dashboard!! She failed. Not sure if that was the reason why!

Re: Most embarrassing driving moments
I was driving with a mate of mine somewhere I didn't know, and there were two lanes, but one was for buses, and one was for normal traffic.
The bus one went to the left, and around some grass verge and luckily it wasn't busy.
As I stopped at the lights on this bus lane realising I had done something seriously wrong here, a car in the correct lane with a load of girls in just looked at me, and luckily, I did a shrugging motion, and they started laughing, but I don't think at me, and my mate and I couldn't stop laughing.
It was embarrasing but it was funny too.
What made it worse, was the bus lane had a seperate set of traffic lights so I could go before the girls in the car could... -
Re: Most embarrassing driving moments
When I was learning to drive, one of the most embarrassing things to ever happen to me was going from 1st gear to 2nd, aiming for third but accidentally going back into 1st! Woops.

Re: Most embarrassing driving moments(Original post by Entangled)
Automatic driver giving advice on clutch issues. I've seen it all.
(EDIT - In hindsight, that came off as more venomous than I intended. Sorry.)
I'm not an "automatic driver" my present car just happens to be an auto.
I've probably driven more miles in manual cars than autos and I've always found it easy to adjust to new cars and their clutches, you just have to feel for it.....even sports cars with heavy clutches. It just requires practice and a bit of skill. -
Re: Most embarrassing driving momentsThat's your most embarassing incident?(Original post by SuperStarr1)

It's even worse when they get angry, give up waiting and sort of drive past first in a huff(Original post by TheGodfather1)
At a junction, someone tries to let you in and instead you stall

Re: Most embarrassing driving moments
When my cousin was taking her driving test, the testing officer asked her to take a right turn around the roundabout in the centre of town, an instruction that she took very literally, and thus drove in the right direction to the other side of the roundabout. As soon as she had exited, the terrified officer immediately grabbed the wheel and pulled the car into the lay-by, before blabbering "you've definitely failed", and proceeding to jump out of the car and catch a taxi home

Re: Most embarrassing driving moments
My all time favourite moment was when I was on a trip with mum one day having just finished my lesson and I think we were at some superstore. Anyways I pulled up to a roundabout to turn into the store, and had to stop at the front of the queue. This was on a small hill - not terribly steep, but steep enough to have to be careful when moving off! So away I go.. but only I didn't. So i start the car up again.. and I stalled again.. and again.. and again.. for 15 to 20 times.. By this time there was a rather large queue behind me (some cards even started going around me, and the person behind was just sitting there thinking oh god.. i swear much longer and he would have got his newspaper out!!), and I being not very experienced started to fluster and put the hazards on thinking that there was something wrong with my car. So we try one more time, by the book - clutch down, gear in neutral... "****.. i was in third gear". Put it into first, start the engine and away I go.. for weeks I was getting stick off mum along the lines of "uh uh uh uhuhuhuhuh uh" (her mimicking my stalling!) I've never been so embarrassed.. the whole debacle went on for about 10 mins!
My second all time favourite moment was in one of my earlier lessons and I had just had the dreaded roundabout lesson! (She used to get me driving all the way through about 20 different roundabouts in quick succession!) But anyway, on this particular lesson I managed to stall on the roundabout right in front of a young woman (clearly having only just passed her test), who was looking at me with pity as I desperately tried to get the car moving again!
Parking is my biggest faux pas! Right after taking my test as we were pulling back into the test centre and parked up, i proceeded to park right across 2 or 3 bays... (I still passed with only 2 minors - not that I had to do any parking on my test!) Parking at school is something I'm getting better at.. though there are a few pics about of my shoddy parking attempts! Nevertheless I give my mum a fright when I manage to fit into a small space at a stupid angle.. with her convinced I'm going to crash! I tell her I won't crash, but truth is that I have absolutely no idea how I don't crash!.. Touch wood I wont!Last edited by littlemissmidget123; 22-05-2012 at 16:12. -
Re: Most embarrassing driving moments
Not really a funny driving moment but it's car-related so I thought I would share it anyway. This guy at my school, (he is retaking AS Level by the way, when he should now be doing A2, so he gets a lot of stick for that anyway) has a car and I think he had recently just passed his test. He parked it at the top of the hill next to our school in the morning and went about his usual school day. However when he came back when school had finished, his car was nowhere to be seen! Turns out that a few people from my year had picked up his car ( it is only a renault clio, so not too heavy for a few people to carry) and carried it to the bottom of the hill! Needless to say it was very funny!

Re: Most embarrassing driving momentsThe space next to the trolley storage is evil, a couple weeks after I got my car I was at sainsburys and thought there was plenty of room between the trolley bit and the car in the next space, pulled in at an awkward angle scraping my door along the trolley bit and only avoiding the car next to me cos the guy jumped out shouting at me(Original post by Bubble87)
I went to Sainsburys today, pulled into a spot next to the trolley storage bit and was so close to the barrier that I had to park at a terrible angle to even get out! It was only a 5 min stop so didn't bother to straighten up. Pulling back out of it was the trouble though, I had a brain meltdown and just couldn't straighten up for the life of me and kept bumping the barrier with my bonnet! After several goes I managed to get out but there was a learner and instructor 2 cars down watching! I imagine something along the lines of "that's how NOT to do it" was said!
A crowd started forming and the guy had to give me help on reversing out without doing anymore damage, I then stalled as I tried pulling away to quick to get the hell out of there, I still get embarrassed thinking about it

Re: Most embarrassing driving momentsWe all like a bit of a boogie while driving, she was probably jealous.(Original post by nickss)
Not sure if this thread's been made before, apologies if it has.
Thought it would be amusing to share any embarrassing moments you have when driving, as for me, they tend to be a relatively frequent occurance.
My most embarrassing, (although not 100% driving related) - when David Guetta's Titanium came out on Radio 1, was singing it ridiculously loudly when bored waiting at a zebra crossing, assuming nobody was watching I carried on and proceeded to dance a bit. I looked out of my left window, this woman was just staring at me like da*** is he doing? I then proceeded to rev the engine by accident as she crossed, then stalled. Was bad.
Another that I saw; Some guy at school was showing off his brand new Golf GTI that mummy and daddy bought for him, head teacher was on his bike (literally not figuratively) on the corner conversing with another teacher. The student accelerated around this corner, somehow knocked over a bin, denting his new GTI and almost killing the head teacher. The amount of **** he got for it after...
How about you guys?
Mine wasn't actually me driving, I went to Nandos with a few of my old mates yesterday, one of them had passed his driving test about a year or so ago and so I asked him to give us all a lift home. First he preceded to pick the most offensive music he could followed by opening the windows and blaring it (as you do) and then putting on his shades which only made the fact that he pulled up behind a bus and everyone else assumed we were parked all the more funnier. When he did go to pull around it, he stalled, a definite Inbetweeners moment.Last edited by Cheese_Monster; 23-05-2012 at 14:55. -
Re: Most embarrassing driving moments
There have been a few embarrassing moments. I've driven a fair distance with the handbrake left on only to reach my destination with smoke billowing from my rear wheels and me none the wiser.
I've also fallen asleep in my car in a Little Chef car park on a motorway in Kent somewhere, flicking my lights on with my knee during my sleep resulting in me flattening the battery. The worst thing about this was that I had to walk over to the petrol station, purchase some jump leads and stand in the forecourt whilst I waited for a manly builder type to pull up and get some petrol in his van. Luckily this didn't take too long so I sheepishly approached a worker and his mate with my jump leads and asked them if I could borrow their vehicle to connect to mine.
Thirdly, this wasn't in my car but was probably the most embarrassing of the lot. My friend and I hired a quad-bike on holiday one time. The quad bike that we were given was painfully slow, there was something wrong with it. We were overtaken on a road by a man on a bicycle. It was a rather upsetting experience. -
Re: Most embarrassing driving momentsHaha, when I was at college, there was a guy that drove a mini, and every day for about a week, a group of 5/6 guys would pick it up and turn it around(Original post by DjamesH94)
