Re: Left, centre or Right wing?
Moderate right; so, I went for centre-right.
I strongly believe in enterprise, low taxes, individualism, hard work, government cuts, etc. But I do feel that the less fortunate should be helped and I am becoming more compassionate than I used to be.
On social issues I lean towards centre-ground (depending on the issue). -
Re: Left, centre or Right wing?
Can you please give us a guide as to what bracket constitutes what ideology?
I voted 'right' but it may be the case that that's not the most appropriate choice.
I'm fairly socially liberal, but I am extremely right-wing in terms of economics.Last edited by Aspiringlawstudent; 19-05-2012 at 15:27. -
Re: Left, centre or Right wing? After that little speech, then I see your sig and you even have a political compass on it...sigh..hypocrite.(Original post by Tahooper)
The whole left-right imagery is pretty useless.
Using that alone, you can't differentiate between Gandhi and Stalin, who were both very left-wing. -
Re: Left, centre or Right wing?I think you should probably go back and actually read my signature.(Original post by siwelmail)

My signature shows not only left-right, but top-bottom as well, hence the name "political compass" instead of "political line", which is a more comprehensive way of showing an individual's views. -
Re: Left, centre or Right wing?
I say 'centre left' to my British friends, and simply 'left' to my International (particularly American) friends. As the spectrum encompasses international politicians, I have decided to go for simply 'left'.
I believe in progressive taxation, progressive social policy, a basic welfare state and greater regulation of large corporations. -
Re: Left, centre or Right wing? What policies in particular do you disagree with on the right?(Original post by jkneen95)
I'm left wing. I disagree in the policies of the right wing parties, and fel that Labour is too centralised.
(Not having a go at you, just being inquisitive) -
Re: Left, centre or Right wing?It is very difficult to call a party left wing or right wing, because it is unclear on which policies that decide where a party stands on the scale. some say it is economy, however there are parties such as the BNP and UKIP which are considered right wing, yet have next to no economic policy. I use it as a measure of equality. The furthest right you can think of is Nazism - one superior race dominating all others. more moderate than that is the BNP which says white english are superior to others and is anti-immigration. Then there's UKIP which thinks that the UK is better than the EU and is better off without it. Many think of the rich-poor divide when you say "conservative". Then there's labour which is especialyl for rights for the workers. then, further left is the Green Party, which mainly is for treating animals equally and respecting the environment. Further left than that and you get communism, which is about no rish-poor divide, everybody having the same opportunities, same amount of money, everything beng shared equally and the State owning everything on the behalf of the people.(Original post by Aspiringlawstudent)

Re: Left, centre or Right wing?
Centre Left. I'm not a socialist (anymore) and I don't believe in hammering wealth creators.
However I do believe that it is governments responsibility to provide high class education and health care to ALL it's citizens. And I stress that quality is the number 1 priority, THEN efficiency. I believe in funding this through a progressive tax system.
I don't believe in deregulation, just proper and efficient regulation.
Unfortunately it seems the progressive tax system exists in theory only in most countries, the wealthy are more capable of hiding their earning, usually legitimately. Read Warren Buffet on this, he should know. -
