Let's face it, it'll be a miracle if anyone gets close to zerf. My post count would've been higher had I paid more attention to the thread earlier on in the season .

di Matteo will probably get the chelsea job now, so more for us to pick from? lol
It would be a pisstake if they didn't sign him. But I get the feeling he still might get sacked or resume the role of an assistant behind someone like Capello.
Apparently he was there at tonights CL final, talking with John Terry.

    We have approached Rafa

If this is true you know he will come back. I think whether it's him or AVB it's looking good.
The phrase "beggars can't be choosers" comes to my mind.

Btw how do you Liverpool fans think of Torres now? Has your opinion changed?

The way I see it is that he moved away cos he wanted to win trophies, and I think that's fair play. You got a good buck for him too.

If he wanted trophies honestly I could understand Manu or Mancity. But Chelsea.. naa not really, not significant cups anyway. They won the CL with insane bit's of luck and opponents choking. It won't happen again.
It's alright though 50m makes it all worth it. Although I think had he stayed we would be in a much better position, considering we built and were building a team around him.

I know a few of you would like him as manager but I personally don't think he would be the right choice.

Well 1 champions league in a top player's career is enough. It's one thing getting to knockout stages of champions league year after year and an another thing to actually going on to win it. That is very rare and that alone justifies his move. That's just my opinion( I'm a neutral).

And like you said, you got a great buck for him. I hope fans are less abusive to the guy. He is a world class striker who wants to win big trophies in the few years he has at his peak.

I feel the same way about Arsenal fans abusing Nasri.

Why would you want to win trophies you had no (or very little) impact on?

Would be a great appointment imo. He's got a proven track record and players across Europe would want to play for him.

I understand what you mean, but at the end of the day you get the medal and get to lift that piece of metal that you've dreamed of since you were a kid. I'd take that.

I'm more sceptical about Capello rather than AVB for some reason.

He is a great manager but I don't think it will be a good match. :dontknow:

Agreed with this - our problem will be attracting players but a manager can make a massive difference. Would you sign for a manager like Mcleish or Capello?

I'm sure players would sign for Capello, not that I want him as manager. AVB is my preferred option behind Rafa atm.

Looking at Capello's manegerial record, he normally wins around 57-68% of his games with each of his clubs. 60% means 23 wins from 38 games which is good, it means we'll be top 4 again. Then again he has gone and managed good teams with already good players, , eg. Madrid, Milan, etc..(we need to rebuild)... With England his win % was 66.67%.

And he rejected Chelsea and still wants to manage in the PL.

Forget Capello, FSG have made perfectly clear that they want a young manager.

how would we feel about AVB?

I like AVB, the only problem with appointing him is that, if we go on a bad run and we lose like a few games in a few weeks, the fans will be on his back and the media will hammer the own with stories like " not enough experience" or " can't handle the PL", then what is going to happen.

If love AVB as long as what's said above doesn't happen, they should give him at least two seasons to see if we're going in the right direction

    I wouldn't mind AVB.

But I'm really not sure. I'm just going to back whoever the owners go with 100%.

In reality I don't think we need to worry as much as in the past. The owners wanted to make the Red Sox successful so they were happy to spend accordingly.

So long as our commercial revenues grow and income gets bigger, I think in turn they will invest more money as there will be more available.

Can't see them taking any money out of the club and the only potential debt would be stadium debt.

Exactly they need to market the club correctly, the other day I read that Manchester United have 360 million fans worldwide and Liverpool have 70. But I also read that Liverpool sell almost the same number of shirts and stuff as Man United to per year, If we bought some Asian dude from like China, then we would get quite a few fans from Asia. I think that is why we are touring the USA and wanting to buy Clint Dempsey. I think their plan is to gain as many fans they can from there as "soccer" is becoming more popular every year, And Americans spend crazy amounts on teams they support. Also Warrior sports was a good move for us as it is an American Based company.

Football will never truly break the USA market. Should focus on the Far East, Africa and potentially India.

Kawaja and Honda are two big names but both are Japanese. Ideally you want the first/next Chinese footballing superstar. That would be a marketing dream. Can see how much impact the likes of Ding Junhau and Li Na have in snooker and tennis. I'm sure there's a massive basketball player too but I forget his name.

Although the most obvious revenue to increase would be from footballing success - CL tv money, higher proportion from finishing high up the league etc.

Dalglish: I think I can turn the team around from a bad season, give me another season, as I don't want to go upstairs and I don't want to leave liverpool manager.

John: well, after a lot of thought, your fired

    Clarke: I want to leave

    John: no.

I wonder when the news is going to be :beard: It is going to be a big summer as well, as the new manager will want to stamp his ethos on the club from day one. The only manager I can't see wanting/being able to do that is Martinez as he won't have the political clout to put pressure on the owners. This is one of the reasons why I think might get the job.
