Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIIYep. I'm liking that he seems to have a clearly detailed vision for the future, which is exactly what we needed. So far so good.(Original post by kuks)
Quote from the article:
But that’s a challenge I’m looking forward to. My philosophy is simple — I’m here to educate. I’m not here to train. You train dogs, you don’t train players.
I'm really liking how he comes across. Holds himself well in the interviews so far. -

“I’ve got a good idea where the group’s at. I think the biggest thing if you look at the team, it’s goals. It’s not rocket science. I think we’re defensively strong. They need more goals in the team. I think that’s the key. Whether that’s going to involve bringing players in or adapting the style to have a more high pressing game we’ll see."
I'm glad he realises the main issue here. -

I like Rodgers. He certainly talks big game. Profoundly confident in himself.
But yeah it's not rocket science, side is lacking in GOALS! This season there were games where it felt like we wouldn't even be able to buy a goal if there was the option. Frustrating. Our defensive record was good, not fantastic. I think that's a bit of a myth. I don't know if it's true but it feels as though we've conceded a lot more this season than we ever did under Benetiz. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIIWe've always been defensively good but "good" is a relative term. You're better off winning games 3-2 than losing them 1-0.(Original post by benkopite)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIITrue but we only lost games 1-0 and drew 1-1 frequently because we were just poor going forward. Once we conceded a goal it was game over.(Original post by Spaz Man)

Anyone thinking of Walcott? In the same contractual situation as RVP, hasn't resigned yet. Arsenal fans don't seem that keen on him. He'd give us some pace.
Not sure if Arsenal would let go of him, especially not if RVP goes. Kinda crazy how Arsenal keep allowing contracts to run down tbh it's puzzling.
Theo's a funny one. One of those that are underrated yet overrated at the same time

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIIJust as a note, that might be offset somewhat by the fact that he was a childhood Liverpool fan.(Original post by Zerforax)
Walcott's ego is too big, he'd want huge wages (and he's already on very good money at Arsenal) but also CL football. Not sure which clubs would actually offer him that.. none of the English CL clubs would take him imo so it would be abroad?
However, I'd also say that unless he's been lying in his press conferences since 2006, he's a pretty devoted Arsenal fan now and wants to stay; I would be fairly confident of keeping him (and I want us to do so as well).
(But also to answer your question, there's been reported interest from Juventus, mainly (who are also reportedly interested in van Persie and Djourou
)).

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIILeighton Baines was a die-hard Liverpool fan as a youth apparently, look where he is now, and look where he'll probably go next - his move to United is pretty much a case of when, not if.(Original post by Abiraleft)

Would be a good price if we can get him too. Would be a shame to Swansea if he wants to join Liverpool because of Brendan.
Still odd that he hasn't agreed personal terms yet? or will that be after his holiday?
Glad we aren't bidding £20m for average players hopefully. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIII
Team for next season:
-------------Reina-------------
Enrique--Agger----Skrtel--Johnson
---------Lucas----Gerrard--------
---Suarez--Aquilani---Sidgurdsonn-
-------------Carroll----------------
4-2-3-1: Rodgers preffered formation
Sidgurdson £10 million
Bring back Aqua and keep cole on the bench. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIII
Walcott's one of those that I'd love here. He'd bring pace and can certainly perform well and at 23 he's got time to fit into Rodgers plans?
We bid for Baines last summer, he said no unfortunately. Think I'd have preferred him to Enrique but whatever, he will go to United in the next couple of transfer windows.(Original post by Strangeclouds)

Sigurdsson looks to be a good attacking midfielder, think if we get him we may finally see the back of Aquilani, but hopefully, and judging from what Rodgers has said, we'll keep both him and Cole and see where it goes. Better to have a a large squad with options next season than none at all! Especially as we're in 3 cup competitions and the PL.
But this is why I think we need another striker, we only really have Suarez, Carroll, and maybe Bellamy who can play up front. I hope that he'd use Kuyt there and bring in a winger tbh. If Kuyt gets some form back and we look at around 15 goals across the season from him. it'd be an excellent return.Last edited by Jim-Jam; 03-06-2012 at 12:36. -
Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIITeam looks good. I like Aqua, he's an excellent player but it's a shame he didn't settle. Maybe he might get another chance. Not sure Carroll would work in that role under Brendan. Interesting to see how he utilises him.(Original post by sivaa015.310)

Re: The Liverpool FC Thread VIIIWalcott.... he blows hot and cold...... when he's in form he can destroy full backs with his crazy pace, that said, the amount of times he wastes possession is frustrating and defensively he is a liability..... in the England vs Norway game, Riise had him all ends up and Riise isn't even the most tricky of players!!(Original post by benkopite)
True but we only lost games 1-0 and drew 1-1 frequently because we were just poor going forward. Once we conceded a goal it was game over.

Also his wages would be massive!!
If I had to chose between signing Vargas or Walcott, it'd be Vargas every time!!
