Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
I'm both, in order to save, splurge on important make-up essentials that need to be of a high quality (foundation, concealer, powder etc) and buy cheaper mascara (as long as the brush is good, the actual substance is all pretty much the same) and eyeliner etc. I would recommend MAC makeup for every skin tone, and hunt for bargains elsewhere (even places like Boots and supermarkets).

Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
I have extremely sensitive skin, and the products that work for me all tend to be quite expensive. I make up for it by using very few products though; for skincare I have just one cleanser and one moisturiser, and the only make-up I use on a daily basis are foundation, blush and lip balm. I agree that for mascara the brand really doesn't matter much; I hardly use it, but when I do I go for something relatively cheap.

I generally spend more on facial products in terms of skin care because they tend to be of a better quality, so I often swerve away from store brands lol but when it comes to eye liner and mascara I go for 'collection 2000' which is fairly cheap (ranging from £2)

Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
I am so bad with the money I spend on makeup. I purchase middle to high end face creams as I do believe that they benefit the skin as research has been put into them.
And for for makeup I buy all the high-end stuff because they do work much better than drugstore products. I mainly use MAC eyeshadows but I hate their foundations- they are terrible. Right now I am using Nars sheer matte and Chanel Perfection Luimeiere. I also find powder is good to invest in too.
I have spent at least £2500 on makeup so far since discovering them about 4 years ago.
And as for mascara, I find no point spending £20 on one as they have to be disposed of in 3 months. I will usually buy something from boots that is waterproof. I always get black smudges underneath my eyes -_-.Last edited by Bubblyminty; 20-05-2012 at 14:30. -
Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
Never more than a fiver. God, I wouldn't even spend that much unless it was really, really worth it! Although, I did [stupidly] buy a Sally Hansen nail polish for about £10 once and I hate myself for it. It sooo was not worth it!
I have to say, I am more into quantity than quality so I prefer buying a lot and alternating between them, or wearing a few at a time. -
Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
I spend quite a lot.
I have very pale skin, so it's not like I can grab a foundation off the shelf in Boots and it'll be a good match for me. Foundations I've been using/buying recently are from brands like NARS, Lancôme, MAC and Make Up For Ever, none of which are particularly cheap. I also really love NARS blushes
But there are also cheap items from Boots/Superdrug that I absolutely love too. Boots do a blush from their Natural Collection line called 'peach melba' which is something like £1.99 and it's lovely! No. 17 also do shimmer brick type highlighter things similar to the Bobbi Brown version which are lovely too. And I'd never spend more than £15 on mascara, I usually go for Maybelline or Max Factor, because I know that they work for me and do the job perfectly well.
I also love China Glaze and Zoya nail varnish, but do a bit of cheeky bargain hunting on eBay and buy it from an American seller because even with postage, if you buy a few bottles at a time it works out way cheaper than buying them here. Zoya is £10+ a bottle here, but £3.50 if I bought it on eBay. -
Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
i only splurge once in a while
you can get sooo much good stuff in the "drugstore" that is so comparable to high end stuff, you just gotta do your reseach
expensive products i'll ask for on birthdays and christmas or when family go on holiday and want to get me something from duty free
and i'll wait for things to go on offer even in boots, i'll wait for the 3 for 2 deal or just £2 off! every little helps -
Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
I love looking for quality bargains, and I am quite into makeup and beauty products.
I can't specify how much I spend however, because atm I don't have a regular income, so it all depends on that.
I try to find high street products which can be comparable or better than some high end ones.
One thing I do spend quite a bit on is hair products, I have naturally curly, therefore dry hair and it is soooo demanding, so I am constantly searching for best products for me
Plus Natural Collection lipstics are brilliant, at 1.99 - there's a nice and big colour selection too
Also, if I know what I am looking for - a specific product - i try to look on ebay as sometimes you can get really great bargains

Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?I agree with some of the cheap stuff being good. I was considering which BB cream to get then my friend suggested No.17, it does the job really well. I have the peach melba blush too, it's good stuff despite being less than £2(Original post by Sakura-Chan)

Re: How much do you spend on make up and beauty products?
I treat myself to one nice thing a month within the £10 range. If I want to save up for something from MAC for example and it costs £20, then I won't spend £10 from the previous month and save up for that. Stuff like moisturisers tend to last me a long time, because I buy in bulk from BuyaPowa. As long as you don't open it, it's good to use! I spend more on skincare than makeup because if my skin looks good, I can go with less make up! Also if I know I love something and it's an absolute Holy Grail product, I buy in bulk as well - for example, Carmex tubs in packs of 12 on amazon are £1.20-something each; less than half the high street price.

I would say that I typically get high end face products - I have two MAC concealers and a MakeUpForever concealer which I cannot live without. It's worth investing in, because again, if your skin looks good, then you can get away with very little make up on the eyes and lips. Stuff like mascara and eyeshadow I get from the high street but it's so hard to find something that doesn't test on animals! I have a mascara from Maybelline, but I bought it before I realised they tested on animals and so now I'm just using it up... Any recommendations for mascaras, guys? I could really use a good waterproof one for summer.
Eyeliner - the Barry M waterproof one reminds me of the Urdan Decay Liners which cost a bomb and the Barry M one is so creamy and long-lasting and just under £4.
Foundation-wise - I don't wear foundation on a day to day basis, just concealer, so I use the Bourjois Healthy Mix. It's pretty good, and it's cheap as well. People say it reminds them of the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua which is beautiful as bubblyminty points out, as are all Chanel foundations. I think Bourjois actually owns Chanel (or the other way round) so basically, it's all manufactured in the same warehouse! Some different ingredients, granted, but not so different. Concentrations of certain pigments might vary, but they're pretty comparable.
Oh, also, CCO at outlet stores do some amazing deals on cheap Estee Lauder owned brands like Origins, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, DKNY... I tend to not stick the £10 rule when I go travelling though; the lure of the Duty Free counters is too much to ignore!
Hope that helped you guys! x
