Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013
The reason that I want to go to St.Andrews is that they have a social science based foundation year and also I think a calm place is better to go to a college If you are new to the current UK undergraduate system. Also, since I am going to a old school I believe It is really important to go to a school that has some culture in it and they do have psych societies and near to Edinburgh so

I'm also reapplying even though I did get offers for this year (for another course though) - I just fell in love with St As and was so sad when they rejected me so I'm trying again
What are you going to do during your gap year?[/QUOTE]

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013
Name: Chloe
Course: History and IR
Subjects studying: Many (American system) - Government/Religions, French, Ancient Greek, Latin, Biology, Art, World Literature, Calculus
1st Choice?: In the UK - most definitely
Does anybody have an idea of how easy it is to receive an offer as an international student? I've heard that it is higher than a home student but that's about it. Thanks!

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013It shouldn't be harder, as long as your grades are up to scratch they'll consider you.(Original post by Chlowhee)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013
Name: Robert
Course: International Relations and Philosophy
Subjects studying: Politics, History, English Literature, Sociology.
1st Choice?: Yup. I fell in love with the place at the open day.
GCSE: A*A*A*A*A*AAAB
AS: AAAA
Extra: President of Debating Society. Office Bearer at local Youth Council. Head of Model UN Team. 500 hours of volunteering award. Silver & Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Done a lot of travelling with exchange programmes. English Mentor in school. Work experience with Amnesty International. Helped out at the Special Olympics Ireland.
... God, I sound like a right swat when it's written down like that.
Does anybody know if St As prefer you to be studying a modern language if you want to read IR?
Can you please add me to the wiki table? Cheers.Last edited by Northern_Ireland; 18-08-2012 at 03:02. -
Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013First of all your ec activities seems to be fantastic. Also I am the leader of Model United Nations and we were at GWCMUN,were you there too ? I believe I saw quite a few people at St.Andrews Applicants 2012 page choosing modern languages as their modules while their major was IR.(Original post by Northern_Ireland)

. The only MUN meeting I was in outside of Northern Ireland, was one held in the International Maritime Organisation, London based on the 'Olympic Truce'... I knew I shouldn't have dropped French at GCSE, awell.

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013
Hello! Quick question, don't know if this is the right place to post it but sure! So at AS i got ABC, the C was 1 mark of a B, which I am getting re-marked and I was just wondering is it worthwhile me applying for the course I want at St. A's which is AAB, pretty sure I am predicted AAB..just wondering!
So if re-marked and if it goes up I would be applying ABB for a AAB course, worthwhile?
Ps, at GCSE i got all A*'s and A's...and have a pretty good PS. -

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013If you are predicted AAB then that would be absolutely fine. Just make sure you have a good PS as St Andrews really depend on the PS. You can get it checked if you want using the PS help service TSR has (links to it in my sig below).(Original post by Robyn1204)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013I'm hoping to study Spanish & History now which is my A and B and yes i've had it checked so many times so so helpful! Changed my decision now so it needs edited to include History. So should I still have a go at applying? Although I know they expect your A to be in Spanish..(Original post by Ecosse_14)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013Ancient History and Spanish requires AAB but any other type of history and Spanish requires AAA by the looks of things. What history would you be interested in? Ancient History would be in the School of Classics. Straight Spanish (single honours) is AAB and straight history degrees from the School of History are AAA. So I would advise you to only apply to a course which has entry reqs AAB (and then you can tailor your modules when you get here to leave with the degree you want as it's really flexible).(Original post by Robyn1204)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013I got an A at GCSE French. I'm not looking to apply for a language at university, just IR, but St Andrews seem to favour those who combine it with a language. I'm in the glorious Portadown, what about yourself?(Original post by Oh-WOW)

Re: St Andrews Applicants 2013Sorry. I meant you DON'T need to be studying it to A Level. I don't think they favour those with a combination. Plenty of people wont be doing a language. Infact, when I did IR, pretty sure none of the people I sat with did a language past GCSE. They prefer a language at GCSE and you have that, so it should be fine.(Original post by Northern_Ireland)

Concentrate on writing a good PS, that is what they focus on.
I'm from Dromara. Though you might not even know where that is. Hillsbourgh direction
My grandparents are from Portadown though!
