Re: Hard much harder is degree maths compared to A-level
I went to a decent uni (one of the Russell Group but not quite top 10) and I found there to be quite a big jump between A level and degree level. I got a B in my A level so if you can get an A then you should be ok. I came out with a 2.1 but I basically had to give up my social life to get it! I partied too much in 1st and 2nd year so my average was very low (44%) meaning I had a lot to make up in final year. so my advice would be to work solidly throughout the 3 years.

Re: Hard much harder is degree maths compared to A-levelIt's worth noting as well that there's a bit of a jump between AS and A2. Good on you that you're putting in the work now, but I know a few people who work really hard who are struggling this year (Year 13)(Original post by stephenworsley)

I know that a maths degree can lead to many careers , but what jobs in specific can be gained? Also, can this degree lead to a job in optometry?
This seems to suggest that you do a specific degree at uni (i.e. not maths) -

Re: Hard much harder is degree maths compared to A-levelAS to A2 is a bigger jump that A2 to Degree? hmmm.. I didn't think AS to A2 was that much of a jump.(Original post by A Mysterious Lord)
As a general rule:
GCSE
------AS
--------------------------A2
---------------------------------Degree -
Re: Hard much harder is degree maths compared to A-level
Eh, the jump from A level to degree isn't where the worry should be. First year's like doing most of A level again (FM too), but hard, and about as much again of new material.
It's the jump from 1st year to 2nd year, that should be the concern. However, take your first year seriously (no matter what others says, first year maths is NOT something you can drift through and be ok. Might be the case for other courses, but not maths), and you'll no doubt be prepared to move on. The point is for you to learn anyway - why would they make that any harder than it has to be for you? -
