Re: Whats the best degree to take to get into investmet banking ?
There's no 'best' degree as such. Quantitative and from a top tier university (Oxbridge, LSE, Imperial, UCL and Warwick) is what you need, plus experience in finance.
It's a very tough, rigorous and competitive career path so make sure you actually want to do it and aren't just doing it because you think you'll be able to buy a private jet by the time you're 25. -
Re: Whats the best degree to take to get into investmet banking ?
Degree is second to university. Therefore a degree that you enjoy enough to survive 3years of it at a top uni. Add into the mix some work exp and ECs, don't act like a A-hole and you should be fine. As long as you also have a genuine interest in IB and are not just in it for the money.

Any one else ?
Don't know whether to feel insulted or not...
I have literally told you the exact answer everyone else will tell you. There is no specific degree; You need finance experience in the form of spring weeks or summer internships; You need to be at a top tier uni or really stand out at a slightly lower one.
There's nothing else to it, OP. Even then you won't necessarily get in. -
Re: Whats the best degree to take to get into investmet banking ?As the other person said, getting a maths like degree from a top tier university where top banks have fairs like LSE,UCL, OXBRIDGE, Warwick, Imperial. They are the top bracket.(Original post by Timmy12321)
Just wondering because im thinking about what im going to do after six form
But then again, thats only one advantage, there is a lot of other things to consider.........such work experience and volunteering. -
Re: Whats the best degree to take to get into investmet banking ?
Maths based i'de say....and then spend your extra time learning about investment banking in a more applied way, reading books, finding forums, ect.
Probably best to go to a place where they scout for people to go into banking. I know people from Bristol who studied aeronautical engineering who now work for JP Morgan after doing well in a summer internship.
Remember to apply for internships and work hard at impressing them.Last edited by InspectorSophie; 20-05-2012 at 00:12. -

Re: Whats the best degree to take to get into investmet banking ?Isn't that back office?(Original post by shuaib786)
What about a degree in Actuarial Science??? -
Re: Whats the best degree to take to get into investmet banking ?It isn't Investment Banking. I think he meant it gives you a good numerical grounding whilst giving you a back up option of a different job in finance (though any very quantitative degree will do for actuarial science AFAIK).(Original post by Planar)

Re: Whats the best degree to take to get into investmet banking ?Because it's a job that usually takes the academically gifted (amongst other things) which TSR seems to be full of.(Original post by Adman32)
