So after an English team winning the Champions League, has the Premier League secured it's place as the best in the world?


At least 1 Champions League finalist every year since 2005, apart from 2010.

3 winners in last 8 years. Spain has 3. Italy has 2.

In 2008, no English team went out to a foreign team.

More than 2 clubs capable of winning the it.

4 different teams in the final in this time, compared to 1 from Spain, 1 from Germany and 2 from Italy.

It's hard to say. I think the Spanish league has more good sides than any other league, but they appear to be dwarfed due to the constant success of the two giants.

I'd agree.

La Liga is the only other league that comes close. I'd say in Spain its more entertaining because of the football they play and the quality of individual players (mainly of Barca and Real ), but the Premier League is by far a better competition.

The EPL on the whole may be the best in the world. But the top 2 players in the world and the top 2 clubs in the world are in the Spanish liga.

It mainly has to do with the influx of foreign money, from arabian sheiks to russian oligarchs.
If not for them, the EPL would be on the same level as Germany or France.

It's a bit odd, although they've won the champions league; fair play to them, they aren't the best. Like many have said, they have defied logic at times. On paper, they shouldn't have even got to the semi's. But they did.

Let me ask you a question. Next season in the champions league, who would you rather Manchester United play? Real Madrid, Barcelona or Chelsea? We all know the answer, and that's is because the other two are better.

Real Madrid are the first team to collect 100 points in one season, of which they did it this year and Barcelona play the best football on the planet. They were just unlucky/not playing at their best on the night.

Also, I think the Chelsea in the previous CL final was better than this one today.

Not really. Only two teams have benefited from it. The English league was already significantly ahead of the French league by the time this money came through as well.

Having said that, the La Liga is better than the EPL. The English performance in European competition this season has not been great. Chelsea managed to do something but the other three were not great tbh. Especially, the top 2 teams, Man U and Man City.

I think England does do football a lot better than Scotland, its why its the most followed league in the world. Some may prefer La Liga, or Seria A but most watch the Premier League. Look at the excitement of Man City winning the title with almost the last kick of the season after forty something years, the drama of the final relegated team decided at the same time, the great football Swansea and Norwich have brought from the Championship, and Chelsea beating the best teams in Europe to clinch the Champions League with the last kick of the season. In contrast Rangers have gone bust and Scottish Premiership stadiums out side of Glasgow appear half empty whenever I watch any of the matches.

What have Real done recently? Oh yeah, win the Champions League in 2002, and not even reach the final since then. What about Chelsea? 2 finals since then, including 1 win.

Again, like I said above, what have those teams done in Europe recently? Real, Juventus, Borussia, Man City, nowhere near winning the champions league in the past few years. Fair enough Barca, Man U, Bayern.

I agree a League is a better way of deciding the better team, but the CL is the only way we have of determining the best team, so we'll have to go with that.
You can't just dismiss every team who wins it as being lucky, then when Barca do it it's because they're by far the best team in the world.

The Bundesliga is still the most competitive league in the world, and the most difficult to succeed in. Try telling an English team that they're not allowed to have a negative budget, ever. It would be a shambles.

It's a knock out cup competition, the best team doesn't always win. End of discussion.
