What Is The Best Internet Security?
I'm really confused. Because some people say there no is need for security, others say there is no point in buying any when there are free ones on the internet, whilst others say it's best to buy one.

So, what is the best internet security? And do I need one?

    Btw, I have Windows 7.

    Thanks.

there are brilliant free security packages:

at the moment i am using Comodo... it is a combined firewall and antivirus

which does not use up as much resources as other products such as Zone Alarm and AVG.

i also have HijackThis, Malwarebytes Antimalware and Spybot S&D.

For emergencies only i use Combofix... but that needs to be used with care.

    All free.

So, you don't think it's worth buying one? I've also heard free ones contain spyware...?

all i can say is that i have not had any trouble with identity theft/financial theft while i have been using these products.

you may feel more comfortable with a paid for product... it's your call.

i forgot to mention CCleaner... i use it after every session. also free !!

Yeah, I suppose I do feel more comfortable paying for one. What paid ones are good? Do you know?

I use Microsoft Security Essentials (which is free) on my Windows partition - never had any problems.

if money was no object i would go for:

    http://www.avg.com/gb-en/avg-premium-security

but there are plenty of cheaper ones:

    http://www.webuser.co.uk/content/bit...ne-year-one-pc

    for example

i have never paid a penny for security software so cannot comment on these products...

I used to use McAfee and Kaspersky, these are both really good. I had Norton once, didn't like it. Now use Avast as its free and works really well and updates automatically

In my experience, the free ones have done **** all.
NOD32 or Kaspersky is a good choice.
Don't go near Norton, it's a nightmare, lags down your computer, impossible to remove...

I can only vouch up to XP though, I switched to Linux after that, no need for an antivirus.

I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Avast (free version). Formerly used AVG free version but Avast isn't as much as a memory hog and is better at getting rid of rootkits.

You are clueless, don't post negative reviews if you don't know the product. Norton USED TO BE slow and take up a lot of resources, however it has changed and no longer slows the computer down, also wtf "Impossible to remove" are you computer illiterate - Norton is actually really good. Another good one is Kaspersky (Norton is faster then kaspersky)

" I switched to Linux after that, no need for an antivirus." Linux isn't immune if you are thinking it is.

I would also recommend installing Spybot S&D it will stop unauthorized changes to the registry and cleans spyware and also CCleaner

A useful program is Safe Keys... it prevents your passwords being intercepted when you type them in:

I specifically stated that I had no experience after XP, which, lo and behold, was the time when Norton was awful. Thanks for enlightening me. I am also aware that Linux is not immune, but have not had a single problem after four years of using notorious P2P download sites

    Known problems with Norton 19.1:

Chromium builds are being detected as risks.
Reputation Scan reports as "Cannot Connect to the Internet" when scanning files with no reputation.
After upgrading to NIS 2012, some tasks in Task Scheduler appear to be left over from NIS 2011.
The window flip when clicking Performance does not occur when system is set to high DPI.
Entries created by Identity Safe fill wrong info into site fields.
LibreOffice is being detected and quarantined by NIS 2012
Download Insight is not scanning Diablo III Beta executable
Identity Safe password not limited to 20 characters when user attempts to Move Data Online
High CPU usage may occur during Quick Scan
High CPU usage may occur when opening the Settings User Interface
High CPU usage may occur when downloading certain types of files.

My Dad is an IT technician, you wouldn't believe the amount of machines that have needed full reinstalls of Windows after being 'Protected' by Norton.

I agree with the other person, when they say Norton used to have problems but now it's much better. Because I noticed this. However a lot of what you said is also true in my case. I always thought the hugh CPU usage was normal and didn't really mean anything...?

I don't know really. A lot of people say Norton slows down your computer... On the other hand from reading reviews people say Norton is very good. Although I have Norton I can't help but think there is something better out there..

    Thanks for your help.

A lot of internet security people have been mentioning isn't really that well known. Which is what puts me off it... I'm not too sure, really.

    McAfee.

Based solely on the fact that it's SO SECURE...that it won't uninstall off of my computer.
