What Is The Best Internet Security?
I'm really confused. Because some people say there no is need for security, others say there is no point in buying any when there are free ones on the internet, whilst others say it's best to buy one.
So, what is the best internet security? And do I need one?
Btw, I have Windows 7.
Thanks. -
Re: What Is The Best Internet Security?
there are brilliant free security packages:
at the moment i am using Comodo... it is a combined firewall and antivirus
which does not use up as much resources as other products such as Zone Alarm and AVG.
i also have HijackThis, Malwarebytes Antimalware and Spybot S&D.
For emergencies only i use Combofix... but that needs to be used with care.
All free.Last edited by the bear; 20-05-2012 at 13:29. -
Re: What Is The Best Internet Security? So, you don't think it's worth buying one? I've also heard free ones contain spyware...?(Original post by the bear)

you may feel more comfortable with a paid for product... it's your call.
i forgot to mention CCleaner... i use it after every session. also free !! -
Re: What Is The Best Internet Security?Yeah, I suppose I do feel more comfortable paying for one. What paid ones are good? Do you know?(Original post by the bear)

Yeah, I suppose I do feel more comfortable paying for one. What paid ones are good? Do you know?
http://www.avg.com/gb-en/avg-premium-security
but there are plenty of cheaper ones:

for example
i have never paid a penny for security software so cannot comment on these products... -
Re: What Is The Best Internet Security?
here is a list of UK computer magazines:

you should be able to find reviews etc -
Re: What Is The Best Internet Security?
In my experience, the free ones have done **** all.
NOD32 or Kaspersky is a good choice.
Don't go near Norton, it's a nightmare, lags down your computer, impossible to remove...
I can only vouch up to XP though, I switched to Linux after that, no need for an antivirus. -
Re: What Is The Best Internet Security? You are clueless, don't post negative reviews if you don't know the product. Norton USED TO BE slow and take up a lot of resources, however it has changed and no longer slows the computer down, also wtf "Impossible to remove" are you computer illiterate - Norton is actually really good. Another good one is Kaspersky (Norton is faster then kaspersky)(Original post by Cake Faced Kid.)

" I switched to Linux after that, no need for an antivirus." Linux isn't immune if you are thinking it is.
I would also recommend installing Spybot S&D it will stop unauthorized changes to the registry and cleans spyware and also CCleanerLast edited by murpo; 20-05-2012 at 14:08. -

A useful program is Safe Keys... it prevents your passwords being intercepted when you type them in:

Re: What Is The Best Internet Security?I specifically stated that I had no experience after XP, which, lo and behold, was the time when Norton was awful. Thanks for enlightening me. I am also aware that Linux is not immune, but have not had a single problem after four years of using notorious P2P download sites(Original post by murpo)

Re: What Is The Best Internet Security?I agree with the other person, when they say Norton used to have problems but now it's much better. Because I noticed this. However a lot of what you said is also true in my case. I always thought the hugh CPU usage was normal and didn't really mean anything...?(Original post by Cake Faced Kid.)

I don't know really. A lot of people say Norton slows down your computer... On the other hand from reading reviews people say Norton is very good. Although I have Norton I can't help but think there is something better out there..
Thanks for your help.
