Can you do two MA's?
The deal is I want to be a criminal/forensic counsellor/psychologist. I am hoping to study BA Criminology and Criminal Justice. After that I want to do an MA in Criminological and Forensic Psychology then an MA so I can become a counsellor. Is this unusual or even possible?
Any help is much appreciated.

Yeah I thought it would be(Original post by Shelly_x)
I don't see why not if you can afford it. Definitely unusual though.

Ok I dont get what you mean but lol.(Original post by Aack)
Yep, I was screwing my girlfriend's Mum and my best mate's Mum at the same time.
No problems arose so I think it's ok. -

I dont understand :/ ?(Original post by Joinedup)
If you can manage with an MA and a PgDip you might avoid getting kicked by elq fees if you do them in the right order. But dyor. -
Re: Can you do two MA's?ELQ stands for 'equal or lower qualifications'. If you apply for a degree of an equal or lower level compared to a qualification you already hold (such as an MA when you already have one), you have to pay higher fees - in some cases significantly higher fees - and your chances of getting any kind of funding are pretty much nil.(Original post by hopingforuni12)

Postgraduate diplomas rank lower than MAs, though, so if you were to get a diploma in one subject you might be able to do an MA in the other subject afterwards without being affected by the ELQ fees.
Edit: Regarding your main question: it's possible, but for most people it won't be sensible or practicable. You'll make things a lot easier for yourself if you decide for one subject that you want to do your MA in.Last edited by hobnob; 20-05-2012 at 21:39. -
So I could do my pgdip in counselling that way I become a qualified counsellor, then do an ma in criminology and forensic psychology? Just to ask do you or anyone know what types of counselling there is? Like youth counselling...or relationship counselling. And if I did what I said above could I counsel criminals?(Original post by hobnob)

Re: Can you do two MA's?exactly... The difference between PgDip and MA might just be that the MA is the taught modules from the Dip plus a dissertation on the end.(Original post by hobnob)

But if you've got a lot of money you could keep doing MAs for the rest of your life if you wanted. -
I would love to counsel criminals, can you actually do that?(Original post by Joinedup)
