Should I go to a+e? (please read + advise)
Hi, not sure so would appreciate some advice...

I started having lower abdominal pain around 2 weeks ago.

I have also had really regular periods for 8 years (suddenly it is 3 weeks late). I have a coil and I am definitely not pregnant.

I am starting to have sharp pains in my left ovary...

I went to the walk in centre and saw a doctor on saturday who wasn't sure and said it was a difficult diagnosis but said he would give me antibiotics for pelvic inflammatory disease... His advice was if I was still in pain on monday to go to my gp who would then refer me for a scan to look for a possible cyst / a problem with my coil.

I am not feeling any better in fact the pain is getting worse and now a combination of neurfen/paracetemol is no longer working.

My first a level exam is thursday so I really need to get this sorted.

Being worried and not knowing what is wrong plus the pain is making it very difficult to study and sleep

I know it's not an emergency but I am in a lot of pain and worried I have a cyst / need my coil removed.

    Advice please?????

Call NHS Direct/24/local equivalent. Trained professionals > students.

I would ring NHS direct first, tell them exactly what you have posted and they'll recommend the best place to go.

Get a doctors appointment if nothing else. NHS Direct is 24 hours. However, they will advise you to go and seek professional help I am sure (that made it sound like you are mental, I am sure you are not!!). Best to go and be told that you are making a big deal out of nothing rather than taking the risk.

That's why I'm saying to phone up NHS Direct to ask if A&E is appropriate. NHS Direct is 24 hour, their number is 0845 4647 (I'm certain of this for England, check online for other areas), and if the person answering your call is uncertain of the answer to your query they will be certain to pass you on to someone with more detailed knowledge, or get that person to call you back.

Thank you everyone. I'm just worried because if I do need to go to a+e, i know they won't let me drive and would send an ambulance and I seriously don't want one

You can always ask if it's ok to take a taxi. Seriously just ring and find out - if it can wait, then good, if you do need checking out immediately then you're doing yourself no favours putting things off.

    Hope things turn out ok.

I think if you have to seriously ask whether you should go to A&E then you probably should go to A&E.

Well the diagnosis could have been worse, and at least you have the answer now. Best of luck with your exams and we all hope you'll be ok!

"Had bilateral ovarian cysts (that are BIG), and also abnormal blood results for ovarian cancer "

Ignore those 'blood tests' there are many reasons other than cancer such as those cysts which can cause the blood results to be abnormal

Yep, I have an infection and inflammation which probably explains the result. Although I am having them redone next week
