MSc Science or MSC Professional Science
    Hi all

This is my first post. I apologise if that has been covered already, I couldn't find anything, but please point me in the right direction if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking about doing either the MSC in Science or the MSc in Professional science at OU, and was wondering if people here could give me their opinions on the two. Is anyone doing either of these? Why are you doing it and what do you hope to gain from it?

I like to learn things, but I would also like for this to actually help me in my career. I work in biotech at the moment, and have no interest in going back into the lab, so I'm not worried about the lack of lab time on these courses. Do you think one of these MSc would actually help career prospects? I'd like to get into science communication, for which they often want a PhD, or technology/knowledge transfer.

    Thanks for any comments.

Hi there and welcome to TSR!! We don't get many science post grads with the OU posting here. I'm on the BSc programme but I'll give an opinion anyway! . The new accredited MSc Professional Science might be the one to go for. I see that it doesn't give you the flexibility in modules that the MSc Science programme does but Professional Science does seem to becoming a new international standard for business savvy scientists.

The other thing to do is check the course reviews. I've linked to the course reviews for SEH806. Enter new course codes in the top right of page to obtain other reviews.

I think you're right. I'm leaning towards the Professional Science, though it seems to be much better known in the US than over here. Hopefully Europe will catch up soon. I've also asked the OU people for their opinion, so we'll se what they say.

    Thanks for the help!

I see in the past the MSc was discussed. The user DrWise had nearly completed her MSc back in 2010. She still might be contactable if you PM her.
