Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLLThen give it a search, it's safe to say it's been done(Original post by Dragonfly07)
lol I'm afraid I'm going to need some explanation on that. I never participated in a debate on this subject before.

I also love how big business is (rightly) attacked for not paying enough tax when the queen can get away with it and no one bats an eyelid. -

Could you list seventeen reasons why, please?
The most accurate thing an American has ever said, the idea of head of state being an inheritable position flies against the idea of all people being equal. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal -

Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLLPeople saying they still want a royal family means they want them to be the Head of State still, if people didn't want them to be the head of state they would want the royal family to go. Plus we don't vote for a PM, we vote for a party, of Cameron's son became the head of the conservative party after he died and people still voted conservative in, then yes his son would take over. Removing the royal family when the majority of people want them isn't democracy, we are already a democracy at the moment.(Original post by DaveSmith99)

Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLL
I support the monarchy because it has been around 1000 years and there is nothing on Earth else like it. God forbid we replace the majesty and splendour of the Royal Family with another bloody politician like Brown or Cameron.

Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLL
Republican, but wished I was just a publican.
Britain is a constitutional monarchy, so the excesses of previous monarchs will never be visited on us again, I cant help thinking that if we were still a Royal kingdom, then Mr shakespeare would still have plenty to write about, the Ruling Elite are still meglomaniacs at heart. -
Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLLLove your picture! Shame about your opinions(Original post by Cannotbelieveit)
Good that the Monarchy has overwhelming support.
It symbolises British National Identity and the majority of the Royal Family are brilliant role models (Queen, DoE, William, Kate, etc).

Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLL
Royalist or Republican seems like a very broad dichotomy to me. An awful lot of people, myself included, fall into the category of being largely indifferent.
I voted "Royalist" because for the moment I think that the monarchy works well. It may not always do so, and my general support does not mean that I believe it is above reform or reproach, but for the moment I am a supporter if not an outright fan of the monarchy.
Until or unless human society is sufficiently advanced as to allow for the abolition of all social class, we may as well keep the hierarchical system more familiar and in keeping with our history over a brand new but equally hierarchical system where only the wealthy have a chance of election.
I would not be opposed to a republic, but it would have to be the right type of republic. Anybody who proposed the creation of a presidency as opposed to something like a lord governorship (just a different name, but I vehemently do not want a president - that label is not right for the leader of these islands), or the abolition of the parliamentary system, would not have my support. If we are to have a republic it must be tastefully done. -
Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLL
Republican!
I believe that by allowing the Queen to keep their assets and title but remove them as head of state that we can still get the tourism benefit along with greater democracy as i fundamentally believe that we should have an elected head of state.
With that being said, i have no objection to the Royals running for office so that we have President Queenie ect... -
Re: Are you a royalist or a republican? POLL
I would have once defined myself as a monarchist but not too long ago, I simply realised how silly the whole thing is.
Reading stuff about protocol when meeting the likes of 'the Queen' really irks me. To me, she and her family do not deserve any more respect than that given to strangers I pass on the street. I respect them as people but do I think of them as superior to us 'commoners' simply because they were born into the family or married a royal? No.
I guess that I'm a Republican because the whole idea of a monarchy completely clashes with my beliefs.
